Has anyone else had the experience of not getting CBs from the firms they worked the most (i.e., going to receptions, networking extensively over the summer through emails, phone calls, and coffee meet ups), but getting plenty o' CBs from rando firms instead? Makes me feel like networking may have been a waste. :/

there could be a LOT of reasons for this though, outside of networking being pointless. it could be that you tried the hardest with those firms because they were the hardest/most selective; or you wanted them the most badly and was a bit more anxious (with it showing during OCI interviews); or the extra time they spent with you they realized you were not a good fit with their firm; etc.

i try not to look at pre-EIP networking as a way 'in' but rather talking points for the interviews (with who you met, what they mentioned, etc. to make you seem interested/interesting and knowledgeable)

For that matter, have any of the GDC CA offices contacted anyone who was at the dinner?

i think it's mentioned on an OCS page -- something like it matters in a sense, but you clearly already made the cutoff by getting the cb. so in the usual sense, no i guess they dont matter anymore, but id assume great grades still overcomes meh fit, and great fit/personality still overcomes meh grades (but your grades were already good enough to get you the cb so...)

how much do we actually have to know about a firm at the CB stage? Is the "X is really good at Y practice, and that's what I'm interested in" answer still good enough? I have my first coming up on Monday and am not sure how to continue to prepare.

id do some more research on the interviewers themselves...if you didnt already for EIP, read the firm's website and nalpdirectory to get a good idea of where they keep their ppl, structure the firm and SA, and if they have any 'personality' -- harder for some firms than others.

it really depends on how you prepared for EIP imo...but save some of the more elite firms that i know nothing about lol, id imagine, from my limited experience, that the cbs will just be like EIP screeners one after the other for the same firm haha. expect a bit more variability in questions as it is a bit longer and diff ppl, but also expect a lot of repeats and have an army of questions ready :P

oh and for chrissakes dont order alcohol at lunch...sure there are some firms that might be okay with it when others at the table order it, but there are more than enough firms that see that as extremely poor judgment that i really just cant imagine why anyone would want to run the risk.

I think things will probably keep trickling in next week. I got a few CBs 2+ days after everyone else did (and was freaking out in the interim). Did you have a lot of interviews on Thursday/Friday?

See, I have trouble with the questions part. I'm not sure what to ask about other than the generic stock questions, which are pretty illuminating, but still. Most firms don't have any unique development/rotation programs or anything else that's easy to ask about.

and above post was me, didn't mean to post anonymously for that.
