Ties to DC?
I'm a current 1L at HYS, and trying to determine my options for this upcoming summer.
While I'm from CT/NY, and I have two 1L SA offers in NYC, I really want to work in DC upon graduation (and ideally next summer). Unfortunately I have no ties to the DC market.
I'm trying to get a sense of whether I should take a position at USAO DC over my NYC SA offer (V15 paying market), in order to establish ties to DC. Obviously I would love to make $3100 a week, but does this completely shut me out of DC for 2L summer?

DC cares about grades, not about ties. At most, someone might ask you why you want to work in DC - just come up with a good answer for that.

Only reason to sacrifice NYC Biglaw SA is if you've been offered a spot at a top Fed agency and know you want to work there later -- the ties built could be useful for entry down the road. Otherwise, take the SA.

I got DC biglaw this summer as a 1L with zero ties to the city. Every interviewer asked why DC, so have an answer for that, but take the NY job.

What's a credible "why DC" answer?

Can someone seriously please help with answering the "Why D.C." question? I just love the city, am single and looking to move there. What should I tell firms?

Only YOU can answer why YOU want to move to DC. But I would avoid saying it's because you are single and you hear DC is a good place to party and meet chicks/dudes. Wait, definitely say that.

More importantly, why would you ever come to DC to meet other people? Ugh.
