Split Summer scheduling conflict?

What is one to do?

The retreat for the first half firm occurs in July and conflicts with a couple business days at the second firm.

How important is it to be at a firm retreat and how would you go about deciding what to do? Do you go to the firm retreat and ask for the time off from the second half firm or do you politely decline and pray it doesn't affect your chances at a permanent offer?
