JIOP
Has anyone interviewed for the Judicial Internship Opportunity Program? Any suggestions for how to prepare for the screening interview? Did the interviewer go into detail about your writing sample?

I also applied and still have not heard back yet. They said to send an email if you don't hear back in a month.

when did you guys apply? close to the 1-7 deadline?
since its rolling admission, do you think there are still federal internships available? Or are state judges the only positions left?

I finished my application on the very last day. No idea what's left. I had the same question. Hopefully I'll know the answer after the attorney interview.Indianaman wrote:when did you guys apply? close to the 1-7 deadline?

I had my interview about a week ago, and the interviewer didn't ask me about my writing sample. Most of the questions were about my work experience and others were about personal interests. I found it to be pretty informal.Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone interviewed for the Judicial Internship Opportunity Program? Any suggestions for how to prepare for the screening interview? When I asked him questions about the steps following the screening interview, he couldn't really give me an answer. I'm just waiting to see what happens next.

Re: JIOP
After a screening interview, I got an email saying I made it to the next round, but no guarantees on a position. Basically your application goes in a pile, and if a judge likes you, then you can get selected with or without further interviews (it's up to the judge).

Re: JIOP
Just had the screening interview. They asked me what my preference was (state or federal) and why. That doesn't necessarily mean there are federal positions left, but it seems to suggest it.Indianaman wrote:since its rolling admission, do you think there are still federal internships available? Questions were what you'd expect. No curve balls. Nothing about the writing sample, but some questions about the personal statement. Mainly focused on resume.Anonymous User wrote:Please let me know how it went and what types of things they asked

Curious to know when interviews with judges typically happen (supposedly hiring is completed by May, but I suppose federal internships fill up earlier) - can anyone who participated in this process last year offer some insight?

This may be a silly question, and it probably is considering the job market, but are any of you guys and gals limiting your summer job search because of this internship (assuming you get it)? I ask because the latest we could hear back is May and most other employers would probably get back to you sooner. Just wondering how some of you are approaching this.

I hope no one minds that I'm bumping it an old thread but it was a relevant thread.
Has anyone done JIOP in years past and can share how the selection process works? I was contacted for an interview by a partner of a firm in the city where my school is located so I'm wondering how the selection process works from here on out. Is this interview something most people just get when they apply and the real deal is a judge interview or something?

I just had my screening interview and the attorney told me he will complete an evaluation and send it back to the program. He said the latest I would hear back is March, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

I applied for the program at the end of December. Got a call from a local firm for an interview last week. And received an email yesterday saying I made it to the next stage - judicial review.
The process if rolling, so they will keep contacting folks until all 200 spots are filled.
Good luck.

Thanks for sharing and congratulations! My classmates who received screenings and I have still not heard about whether we will be moving forward (we all interviewed in January) - may I ask what general region you listed as your preference?red_roses wrote:I applied for the program at the end of December. My classmates and I listed different regions, mainly West coast though.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
