State Court vs. Fed Court Clerkship

Post by iagolives » Thu Jan 13, 2011 10:35 pm

Hey,

Is anyone out there trying for (or have experience in) a state court clerkship after graduation? I know it is a hard market but, if you are, what will you/did you do differently than your fed court-aiming peers, if anything?

I'm a state court law clerk. I didn't do anything differently, but I noticed most of my peers applying for federal clerkships did not consider state court until after the federal plan essentially ended. That was a mistake for them. My court hires in June, July, and August. All judges had hired before the federal plan even allowed judges to contact applicants.
