If you have a "not invited" from a firm, but no one else has confirmed that that firm has issued invitations, stop freaking out about it! You don't know anything yet.
Think of it like grades. Imagine if, instead of having blanks, SIS put in a B- for each class as a dummy until real grades come in. We're told that grades are supposed to be in by a certain day, but then Cary Bennett sends us an email at the last minute saying that, for whatever reason, several professors had not yet turned in their grades. If you then went to your grades, saw a bunch of B-'s, and thought, "Aaaaaauuugggghhhh! I'm going to /self! Why, cruel world, why?" you'd be an idiot. If you had confirmation from a bunch of classmates that particular grades were in, fine, draw conclusions about those. Otherwise, you're just getting worked up over (literally) nothing.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
Everyone needs to take a deep breath. This part of the process is very tense: the top (and I do mean very top, the top 5% especially) of the class currently controls a massively disproportionate share of the interview. Firms love preselecting the top and then letting things trickle down.
The situation is worse because only partial results were posted.
The basic bottom line is that unless you are in the top 5, 10 or 15 percent of the class you are likely to get a LOT more interviews by the time OGI starts. Every year we get a freak out around now. But between late firms, declined interviews flowing to alternates, the lottery, and special requests things will even out.
Last year, as an example, I and many I knew had 30, 40 or more preselects today and many I know who went on to have many interviews and got jobs were sitting on under 5 preselects. That's just the nature of the beast.
I personally believe the forecasts earlier in this thread were excessively rosey, but there's nothing to be done about that now.
Good luck and keep breathing.

I don't know what to believe. I trust KD more than any other OCS person, and he still seems very upbeat about prospects this year.

Sullcrom's on the list of firms that requested an extension. But no, I haven't heard from any of those firms.Anonymous User wrote:Law Review, Top 5%, significant work experience. All NY unless noted, * denotes alternate

While I did fine in NY (20+), a friend of mine with nearly exact same grades (actually higher), but slightly worse W/E got 6. What is going on?
Dear rising 1L's, take tuition money to Vegas. It seems to be a safer bet. There is blood on the street.

It appears to be. I still don't see how WE can change it from 20+ to 6... especially when we're both in the top ~15%

I got 16 in NY with top 15% grades and zero WE. But a ton of my firms are ones like Brown Rudnick, Katten, King & Spalding, Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, etc. Swinging and missing on Fried Frank/Kirkland & Ellis/Proskauer/Linklaters/Paul Hastings/White & Case/Dewey/Ropes seems odd (all firms that people have reported having gotten interviews with).Anonymous User wrote:It appears to be. Preselects and alternates are still rolling in. I just had a "not invited" turn into a "preselect" before my eyes. Usually I'm all about the doomsday theories (and this morning I was seriously contemplating the unacceptable state of my life), but I don't think we should freak out until at least tomorrow morning.
