It's hard to tell if you were told it was all sunshine in your reviews.Anonymous User wrote:How can we tell if we're offered because they love us or are byproducts of wanting to keep 100 percent offer rates? If it's 100 percent for big classes wouldn't it seem many were "eh, not that bad..."
I know some people were told they were a "close call," which has to be unsettling.

Thanks all. Honestly couldn't have done it without TLS reminding me everyday to stop being a neurotic moron. What a goddamn relief.

If it'd impact the work or practice group you get later. This is really a if you loved your firm but could probably "trade up" but don't want to unless you should question. I don't understand how telling a summer it was a close call but offer benefits the firm unless they are subtly encouraging them to apply elsewhere. The people making these decisions are doing so because they're smart. I'd imagine they're only going to divulge information that will benefit the firm or the summer. My clique all had the sunshine speech so I don't know if that example is cold offer talk? I'm probably overthinking it but I know I wouldn't have picked a sub-90 percent firm irrespective of rank because the career outlook from a V-5 vs V-30 pale in comparison to a V-100 vs. No offer. I'm sure most think similarly so the offer rate is hugely important to big firms... Probably worth eating a lot of salary for.Mal Reynolds wrote:Why do you care.Anonymous User wrote:How can we tell if we're offered because they love us or are byproducts of wanting to keep 100 percent offer rates? I just want to make a note for the next generation of SA. Fill out your w-2 forms correctly (i.e. around 24 withholdings, using IRS calculator) I earned an extra $5K this summer, which I am using on rent. However, if you really like having a happy surprise at tax time, throw it in an Index fund and enjoy that last year of tax free capital gains.

Also, if you get a crazy large refund you get audited. Like 20% of my ls class got audited.SemperLegal wrote:I just want to make a note for the next generation of SA. If I was cold offered and accepted, should I be less concerned about the possible ramifications of reneging?

I didn't get an offer but I get to stay where I am for the fall semester so I'm making progress
.
Edit: to be clear a full time offer just from summer wasn't possible, it's a small firm.

Chilly, if not brisk. Was given an offer in a department I had expressed no interest in and had no experience with. I was then contacted by a third party with ties to the firm and told that if I didn't accept the offer immediately, it would disappear. So I accepted, but now other firms want to interview me.Desert Fox wrote:Yea you'd be doing them a favor. Which isn't compliant? Me potentially interviewing with other firms? If you're referring to the firm's actions, pretty sure there aren't "rules," just guidelines, which are nonbinding.txdude45 wrote:That can't be compliant with the rules.Anonymous User wrote:Chilly, if not brisk.
