Wake Forest Class of 2012
Who all has decided on Wake?
I obviously have. Where is everybody from?

Re: Wake Forest Class of 2012
I am ALMOST ready to send in the deposit... I am holding out on one more opportunity from a different school, but if I don't hear from them by April 1st, then I will be committing to Wake Forest for sure.
Where are you from, taylorn? If you don't mind me asking, what other schools had you been considering? Did you have any great insight into how you definitively chose Wake Forest? I'd love to get some reassurance!
I'd also like to hear from anyone else who is sure and/or almost sure that they'll be in winston-salem this fall! Hopefully more people turn up soon!

Re: Wake Forest Class of 2012
Oh, duh, I didn't even answer the OP's question. I went to college in Kansas City and have lived here in the two years since I graduated, as well. But I lived in central Nebraska all the way up until then. Woohooo! Go Big Red!
Speaking of college sports (because Nebraska used to mean something in college football), I was so excited by the possibility of going to a school with a great sports team.... but.... umm... now Demon Deacons basketball seems to have become a bit of a punchline, usually involving the term 'choke'. Still -- lots of good potential, right? Young talent, coming back next year? We'll chalk this season up to experience and hope for the best next year!!

I am from Augusta GA, went to UGA for undergrad. I was looking at Tulane, Georgia State and Miami, besides Wake.tchadwick wrote:I am ALMOST ready to send in the deposit... I chose Wake for several key factors
1) Private School = small classes & 4 sections, I also like the long term prospects for their degree compared to a public.
2) Location = Loved Winston-Salem, and the area
3) Job Security = I like how they place students in DC, Charlotte, and Atlanta
***My x-factor was on the visit. Its soooo personal, and EVERYONE there was top notch. People were nice even over the phone. It just seemed like a family.

Wake's basketball team should be pre-season Top 5 next year, if everyone comes back.tchadwick wrote:Oh, duh, I didn't even answer the OP's question. Did you guys receive any scholarships? I'm holding out for my financial package. Wake averages $21,000 but I have not received anything yet:(

I am way confused over how those quoted average financial aid packages work!! I tried to find an exact explanation in my US News & World Report mag, but I couldn't find one that broke it down fully. They used that generic term 'financial aid package', which could mean merit-based or need-based and AND that term also can encompass loans, as well as scholarships. Plus, I don't think it's clear whether that number is for all three years, or per year. And, is that only averaging the people who were offered scholarships? Because some schools that only give out big scholarships, but only to a few people, would have high averages; however, schools that spread out scholly amounts in a wider range but to more people, may have a much lower average. I don't get it.
Sorry, I have thought about that statistic a lot when looking at different schools. Anyway, yes, I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship. It was less than $21,000 per year, though, and I haven't talked to a whole lot of people who have gotten above that, so that average hasn't seemed to present itself this year, at least in my observation. Regardless, I am very grateful for getting anything!

So far we have...
Wake = quick acceptance, decent scholly, great faculty/staff
UNC = rushed acceptance, poor communication
I don't know what to do. I just had to be born a Tar Heel.

I've sent in my deposit! I chose Wake over UNC due to the small class size, the highly qualified faculty, and the reputation. Also, they seem to have excellent clinic offerings and if you want to participate in a clinic, you should have the opportunity (even if you don't have the top grades).
I'm looking for a female roommate if anyone else is looking to share an apartment. Let me know!

Re: Wake Forest Class of 2012
Arizona offered me $$. I still might go to Wake though, at this point I might as well throw a dart. I just submitted my Smith/Shaver essay and a fafsa, so hopefully I will get some love from them. I always thought it was pretty easy to get a scholly from Wake, but I guess my numbers aren't where I thought compared to their averages.

I'm going to go ahead and dip my toes in here, even though I haven't made my absolute and final decision yet. Like a few others, I just submitted my app for the scholarship, so a lot will depend on that & how much Tulane offers me. (I also haven't given up on a few waitlists, *sigh*) Whatever happens, though, I would be happy to go to Wake - I love the area, and had a really great visit to the school (even if there aren't any windows in the classrooms, gah).

Re: Wake Forest Class of 2012
Alright, I emailed Melanie Nutt about an hour ago to let her know that I've committed to the Wake Forest Law Class of 2012! I'll draw up the little formal letter tonight and put it in the mail with my tuition deposit check tomorrow.
I'm so excited! I'm also such a nerd that I already had a fun time planning which courses I'd like to take in all three years! I know, things will most likely change.... but I really like the plan of study that I've set up! I'm very happy with Wake's course offerings! So excited to be a Demon Deacon!
I'm looking at moving to Winston-Salem in Mid-July. If anyone else will be there around then, we should totally get together & hang out. I won't know anyone else in the area!

Congrats. Not sure when I plan on making the move. But I won't know a soul in the area either.tchadwick wrote:Alright, I emailed Melanie Nutt about an hour ago to let her know that I've committed to the Wake Forest Law Class of 2012! I think in June during the House Hunt weekend they have some socials planned, like going to a baseball game, etc. Should be a good way to meet people.

Hailing from Kansas City. I see that you are from Georgia. You southerners will have to help a Midwestern girl adjust!taylorn wrote: Congrats. Not sure when I plan on making the move. But I won't know a soul in the area either.

Haha I actually think most of our class will be from the Northeast, but could be wrong. Either way you will enjoy the weather. Winston-Salem is close to the beach and the mountains, so plenty to do besides what the city has to offer.tchadwick wrote:Hailing from Kansas City. I see that you are from Georgia. I studied abroad through KU so I have a bunch of friends from the KC area.

I just found out, I'm in! Doubt I will get any scholarship as I am 159/3.6, are any of you hesitant about taking out such large loans?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
