People who want nice stuff but have no money. Also, see: people who buy $30k cars on $50k salaries.

I work in bank collections, and 95% of the people whose debts I pursue either have zero financial sense or were willing to go broke to uphold some outward appearance of wealth.

Who needs furniture when you have a giant cardboard Darth Vader?

edit: I'm not saying I have one or anything...

So then yeah, people who are not in their right mind, haha. I guess the whole spending less than you make thing is just too complex for many to comprehend.

IDK. There are a lot of spray-tanned, steroided, $70 bedazzled Ed Hardy/Affliction shirt wearing guys in Arizona who'd disagree with you.

Have most people from the 27th ASW gotten their travel stipends back? I was in Ohio this weekend and still haven't received mine and want to know if I should e-mail Mr. Dougas back about it.

Congrats to the graduates! I have one week left of partying until graduation on Sunday.

I haven't received my travel stipend for the ASW on the 27th, either.

Ok, future classmates. My house hit MLS this morning, so everybody please send up a prayer to the deity of your choice that it will sell quickly and at a reasonable price. In 3 months, I would love to be house-free and chilling at Jefferson Ridge, waiting for classes to start!

Does anyone know much about the Graduate Center housing?

Alternatively, is anyone still looking for a roommate? I'll probably post something on the UVA law forum later with more information.

Thanks, YCrevolution.

Yeah what's up with all the health stuff? Is there even enough time to get a series of four vaccinations if our vaccination records are too old or we have no idea where they are? This is a beating!

I live there. It's adequate with the big advantages being that it's close to everything and you get your own bathroom without living alone. As far as I know, we have a room open in our apartment still if you need a roommate and won't mind living with 2Ls.

I meant to comment on this sooner, but a $30k car on a $50k salary is very doable. I'd know, I've done it. $50k/yr is a gross of $4166/mo, and a 60-month loan on a $30k car (with good credit) is just over $500/mo, or about 12% of your gross income. If you live in a state with no income tax and low property prices, it can be downright reasonable.

Now, a $40k car on a $30k salary... I've seen people try to do that, and with bad credit. One lady with a newborn baby tried to buy a brand new Expedition Limited, kept insisting that was what she wanted and shed take nothing else. She could've actually been financed for a nicely equipped Explorer, definitely big enough for her and her one child, but she just had to have the bigger vehicle. Even in economic good times we had to tell her she couldn't afford that much. She told us she'd take her business to someone who "wanted to sell to her" and stormed out.

I'm willing to bet she found someone that would, too, in spite of her finances saying "hell no" to anyone that looked at them.

Yeah, my example probably wasn't extreme enough. 30k car on 50k salary is definitely doable if you don't have kids or a big mortgage. I should mention most of the people I see spending that kind of money on a car in relation to their income also have terrible credit, so they're really paying 50k for a 30k car.

I'm the type of guy who will pay cash for everything other than my house, though. I see interest as waste. After working for banks for a year, I don't want them getting more of my money than I have to give them.

alright, friends, we've been on this page since monday. And although I'm not really a page whore, it would be nice to see some more mass communication among us TLS 0Ls. So here we go. Who is overly excited for when apartment leases/classes start?

I for one have requested a floor plan, with measurements, from my landlady as to plan out, inch by inch, how I will furnish my room.

I think my wife and I might have to get rid of some furniture when we move in.

:(

Also, DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY KIND OF JOB AT ALL THAT MY WIFE COULD TEMPORARILY GET IN C'VILLE?

I love you guys.

I'm sure you've noticed that the biggest employer in Charlottesville is the University; does she your wife have any... collegiate skills? Other than that, I'd ask about commuting. And by asking I mean suggest, because I really have no solid leads.
