Re: UVA Class of 2012
I called UVA a couple weeks ago transcripts, but I haven't spoken to them about financial aid. I think someone called them about the deadline - check the last few pages or so.
Regarding overenrollment, considering how many people they waitlisted (like, everyone above or below a 170 according to LSN), they better have done things right this time.

Does anyone else consider the Ivy Garden app process to be more than a little screwy?
I've been E-mailling back and forth trying to get info on a unit. They were only offering one unit with an early August move-in date, and I write and ask for info and the next thing I know they're telling me that unit's taken and they only have 1-bedroom units with June or July move-ins, and they don't adjust move-in dates, you'd have to pay starting then even if you're not moving in till August.
So I called them, just to see what unit I'd get if I took a July move-in date. They couldn't tell me?! I was told that I just "needed to submit an application" and I'd "go in line behind everyone else" and it was "first come first serve for people who've paid their application fee and security deposit".
This is the strangest rental process I've ever seen. I'm not allowed to know what specific unit or unit type I'm getting, or to say "I'll take it" and take it? I'm supposed to just go into a line and hope I get a unit at all and be happy with that?
The crazy thing is I still went ahead and paid it. Got raped for a $24 "convenience fee" using their online "leasepay" website, too. I just hope the location makes it worth the management...

Yea, I thought the whole thing was bizarre myself. I looked at it before I ruled Ivy out, and thought it was weird.vanwinkle wrote:Does anyone else consider the Ivy Garden app process to be more than a little screwy?

When I visited, the leasing agent pretty much brushed us off and wanted us to leave. She acted like we were annoying her by being there and when I asked if they had a unit available to look at she told me to take the online tour. Then she explained to me their ridiculous process and acted miffed anytime I asked a question. She also pretty much said I had to apply online, I guess she didn't feel like going through the hassle of me filling out paperwork. I knew right then and there I would not be living in Ivy.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
if i had a two week long struggle trying to get an apartment at Ivy (they didn't realize that the apartment they had assigned me was being retained by the previous resident), but for the record the person i've been dealing with has been very nice and patient throughout the process.

I asked about Ivy before, but does anyone have a sense when the other apartments within walking distance to the law school fill-up. Still on the waitlist elsewhere, so I kind of wanted to delay signing a lease as long as possible.

Also, do any of the main places offer month-to-month/nine month leases, or are we locked in for 12 months?

I have heard nothing good about the management there. Expect to be nickel and dimed. If I were you, I'd go with University Heights. It's not much further from the LS than Ivy.vanwinkle wrote:Does anyone else consider the Ivy Garden app process to be more than a little screwy?

I got a 10 month lease here: http://www.brac.com/largeview.cfm?ID=2125&img=maplimegreen wrote:Everywhere I went only offered 12 month from what I could tell.mijahe wrote:Also, do any of the main places offer month-to-month/nine month leases, or are we looked in for 12 months?
But if I renew, I'll have to sign a 12 month lease. Also, they said I got the last 10 month offering for Wade Apts. I have no clue why they only had one apartment (out of many) for a 10 month lease.

Try and avoid that site if possible (too late now though). The owners of the Graduate Center wanted me to use it to pay my security deposit, but there was a $22.95 surcharge, so I just mailed a check instead. Depending on what card you have, that site can be a complete ripoff.Got raped for a $24 "convenience fee" using their online "leasepay" website, too.

Just replace Case Western with St. John's and it's a winner.

Wow, I just checked out the graph on LSN for the first time in a long time. Trujillo really let himself go with the waitlisting this cycle!Cavalier wrote:I called UVA a couple weeks ago transcripts, but I haven't spoken to them about financial aid. Peer assessment scores are what matters, and we all know how UVA does in this regard.

Hasn't UVA been bouncing between 8th and 10th for 6 straight years? I fail to see the decline.

Hm, median grant amount from last year was 14k. (from ABA data)
So are numbers up from last year or is LSN just numbers biased? I think we'd have to compile LSN stats from last year as well to get a better picture.
