Note that the entire rankings article will soon be officially updated, but I wanted to get this post up right away.

Harvard eclipsing Stanford is not shocking considering how much top talent they have added to their already amazing faculty.

Berkeley remaining at 6th (tied with Chicago) is impressive. Dean Edley is really doing a great job on continually improving the law school. Berkeley had a lower acceptance rate than Harvard (11% for Berkeley, 12% for Harvard), showing how selective Berkeley is but that they look beyond the numbers.

Georgetown remains a pillar at #14. They have been at #14 since 1999.

The U. of Illinois jumped up to #23. Likely due to Dean Pless actively posting and blogging on TLS

Indiana U. was also tied at #23, jumping up from #36.

George Washington dropping to 28 is a huge fall from their last ranking of 20. This may be like Hastings, which never recovered from their precipitous drop.

Several other threads on TLS are discussing the 2010 US News Law School Rankings as well, but would enjoy any thoughts others had on these latest rankings.

I think a good story here is the University of Florida's 5 spot fall... widely regarded as the clear cut best law school in the state of Florida, FSU is now right on it's tail... could this be due to the extreme budget cuts that the state university system is suffering? And how will these new rankings affect how the school conducts future business so as to remain the premier institution for law in the state?

i'm a far cry from an elitist when it comes to this stuff, but there's no way tier 2 action is the biggest move. GW and fordham are clearly the biggest stories. sorry.

I have to say this was a great night for TLS. Very exciting to rally behind Opera and follow her block by block on her cab ride to determine if the rankings were true. Being the 2nd source on the Internet and first law forum to crack the story was quite exciting.

On a related note, in the future we will have TLS News which will be stories about world events written by TLS members to utilize the genius of our site members.

Thanks for the editing notes. Will be updating the list as edits come forward.

Here is a bit of a summary of the movers in the top 25:

Stanford -1

Chicago +1

Penn -1

Northwestern -1

UVA -1

Duke +2

Cornell -1

UCLA +1

Vandy -2

GW -8 (likely hurt by separation of the part-time program)

BU+1

Emory +2

Minn +2

ND - 1

W&L -5

Fordham -3

Illinois +4

Iowa +1

W&M +2

Indiana +13 (perhaps the most groundbreaking news of the rankings)

Davis +9 (also did well and now looking more attractive than Hastings)

I would argue Bloomington...there was no way that could have been predicted.

I've never been a big fan of US News Rankings, but this list does provide my choice of attending Illinois with a bit of positive reinforcement.

Ouch for GW and Fordham...

Penn State is a rising star that will crack the top 50 in the next 5 years if not sooner given its large jump this year. It has excellent name recognition, a strong college alumni base resulting in great contributions, and a lack of any strong competition outside of Penn, which will always be a top 10 law school.

Man, all the schools I may still get into are falling down the rankings. GW, W&L, GMU... that's not nice.

On another note, the whole self-congratulatory TLS exclusive tone is really hilarious. Kinda reminds me of my days on rap message boards many years ago when someone posted Nas's first song with Jay-Z, or whatever.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

    Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
