Is it poor taste to email the LOCI as an attachment with a breif message? Recently, I emailed an addendum and they received and called me about it immediately. Should I send my LOCI via postal mail or email?

Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
e-mail the admissions office first and ask what they prefer. Also, re-read the waitlist letter b/c the specifics may be in there, including who to address it to. One of the schools I am waitlisting at requested I put my LSAC # on the top corner - make sure to follow small details like that.trialjunky wrote:Is it poor taste to email the LOCI as an attachment with a breif message? any suggestions for a follow-up second LOCI for someone out of law school for quite some time. Clearly, there's nothing to update my file with.

So I'm working on my LOCI right now... I wasn't promoted at my job but I did just get a raise. Should I mention this in my letter or is that in poor taste? How can I say this tactfully?

I don't think it's necessary since it wasn't an actual promotion. You might want to supplement with an additional LOR from your boss, however, if you don't already have one from them.

Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
Hello-
I'm working on a LOIC and I have a phrasing question. While I would be THRILLED to go to this school, it's a bit too early in the admissions cycle for me to be proclaiming that it is definitely my first choice, or include any sort of promise that I would attend.
Would a "I would be thrilled and honored to attend" suffice, or should I include something more along the lines of "this is my first choice and I will attend if offered admission". If I am offered admission after including the latter statement and then decline, is that a problem?
Thanks to all for the advice.

Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
I was recently held at a school, and then deferred at another. I'd like to follow up with a new recommendation and a LOCI for both. One school specifically asks for things to be transmitted via LSAC, although I can't figure out how to do this. Does anyone know if there is a way to send only documents to schools through LSAC? Also, should I send them both this way even though the TLS wisdom is to send via snail mail?

Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
I am planning on sending out a LOCI to Fordham since I was waitlisted; however, I wanted to send with the LOCI some additional LORs. However, I have reached their max # of recommendations. Originally I didn't think it would be that big of a deal to send additional LORs because I am waitlisted and new LORs would provide them with a better picture of who i am. But after reading over this thread I am seeing that some of you think it might be a bad thing to send more recommendations than their max, even if it is with a LOCI. I actually have one academic and 2 employer LORs ready to be sent to them, which would make my total 6. Any feedback on this? I'd like to have this sent out by tomorrow.

Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
An additional letter of rec is not a LOCI. A LOCI is a letter from you, the applicant, which says that you are still interested in the school for reason X, Y, and Z.
Do not send them more letters of rec than they ask for. It reflects poorly on you.

I know what a letter of continued interest is. I was talking about sending additional lors with the loci.duckmoney wrote:An additional letter of rec is not a LOCI. A LOCI is a letter from you, the applicant, which says that you are still interested in the school for reason X, Y, and Z.

I wouldn't recommend it if you've maxed out already.

Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
A follow up question: my gpa this semester was only about a 3.15. Not great. With my LOCI, should I even include an updated transcript? Would it's absence be obvious to an admin officer, Should I just own up to it?

Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
Can LOCI's be semi-informal?
Example...I'm from VT so cold winters in Chicago won't be so bad for me, I can handle the weather!
I'm wavering back and forth on it...but I'm guessing no?

I'm not going to lie--I'm freaking out about writing my LOCI. I have done absolutely nothing even vaguely productive all semester:(

Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
The October LSAT gave me about 1/2 of a productive semester. But naturally I put off my advanced finance courses and calculus until this semester. Not exactly sure how I'm supposed to word this to Fordham.legalprincess wrote:+1rocon7383 wrote:A follow up question: my gpa this semester was only about a 3.15. Not great. Re: Sample LOCI letters and article
Does anyone have any advice about (or examples of) how to talk about family/SO issues as a reason for wanting to be in a particular city in a LOCI? I can't seem to figure out a happy medium between, "I would like to move back to Chicago," and "I NEED TO MOVE BACK TO CHICAGO PLEASE LET ME IN."
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
