Personal statement and diversity statement overlap

Postby outlawscr10 » Sun Nov 03, 2013 4:30 pm

Wanted to get some advice. My personal statement currently refers a lot to my diversity, which would seemingly make a diversity statement redundant, but they're still required. Any thoughts on how to approach this? Write a different PS devoid of any reference to diversity and save it for the other?

What school requires a diversity statement? That's unusual and seems almost mean.
But if that is the case, don't reiterate what you've already said. "Diversity" is not synonymous with URM--it is BROAD. Write about religion, age, ethnicity, geography, social class, major, political ideology, work experience in an unusual industry, literally anything. You've got something that makes you unique. :) They just want to know what you'll contribute, so pick one of your many attributes and say you'll contribute it!
