Difficulty of Deferral

Post by sven » Thu Dec 01, 2011 9:39 pm

All of the top schools seem to grant deferrals on a case-by-case basis. But does anybody know of a case in which a request for a deferral has been denied? I am considering applying for a job that would require me to defer law school for a year, but I have already applied to schools and am scared about potentially not being able to defer my one of my dream schools (HYSCN).

I haven't heard of any denials (which is absolutely not to say that they don't happen) but keep in mind if you get admitted to one of these schools off the waitlist, you almost certainly will not be able to defer. As far as regular admission then deferring, I think schools are usually receptive. I've heard specifically that they're easy to get from NYU. Not sure about the others.
