When should I take LSAT?

Post by jared6180 » Mon Jul 25, 2011 6:39 pm

I am starting my junior year of undergrad in August. Assuming I am able to stay on track with my current schedule, I hope to start Law School in the summer session of 2013, so when do you think I should take the LSAT? I was thinking about it last night, and honestly i am closer than I realized once you account for the 2-3 months for schools to make their decisions, and then another 2-3 months to figure out the finances of it all, suddenly I realized i need to take the LSAT in the next 12-14 months...at the latest, kind of makes me nervous really! So when should I take the LSAT? should I put all my hopes in one basket and hope I get that 179 on the first shot, LOL, or should I take it early enough to have an opportunity to retake?

February...June...October 2012???

Start studying now, and sign up for the test when you are within a few points of your target.

I'm in the same position...... studying for October now! I think the general advice would be to take it early so that you have a chance to retake in either February or June, avoiding having to take the LSAT in October '12, pushing back your applications becoming "Complete" and hurting admissions/scholarship money chances.

Next June or October. June is nice because the last few weeks of studying are in summer, when your other obligations are negligible, and you'll be able to get plenty done. But if you choose October, you can use all summer to study, and nothing happens the first few weeks of the semester. But I went June so I could have the retake-in-October-and-still-get-apps-in-relatively-early thing going for me, not that I ended up needing it.

Next June. You want to make sure you have October as a retake option, because if you go October -> December (retake), you could seriously harm your chances at many schools.

(You could also study for February, but I found it much easier to study for the June test since I wasn't in classes at the time.)

june is your best option, in case you dont get your target score you still have 3 months to study before the october test to get your score to where you would want it

taking it in october really only leaves you a month to study again
