Requesting extension on seat deposit deadline?

Post by nireca » Wed Mar 23, 2011 3:03 pm

Anyone know if this is a viable option? I have seat deposits coming up at the end of the month and I haven't even heard back from all the schools I've applied to yet. I'm thinking it couldn't hurt to try but I'd feel a lot more comfortable goin in if I knew the results of any past attempts.

I'm in the same boat. I'm probably putting down my seat deposit without hearing back from all of my schools.

That's such BS that you should have to do that tho. I can't believe nobody out there has tried this before.

One school that I applied to agreed to extend the deposit deadline until after they reconsider me for scholarship funds, but other schools have flatly refused to extend the deadline for me. I guess it can't hurt to just email the school and ask.

I just emailed one of my top choice schools and they agreed to extend the deposit deadline for about three weeks. Granted, the deadline was April 1st which is much earlier than most schools, but I didn't think that I had a chance so I almost didn't send it in. Now I'm glad I did.

If you respectfully and honestly lay out why you think that you need an extension, the worst that they can do is say no.

Nice. Do you mind saying which school? I was writing to St. John's and their deadline was April 1st as well but I only asked them to extend it to April 7th. Didn't wanna push my luck but now I'm thinking I should have gone for more.

No problem, I asked UST in Minneapolis and they graciously agreed to extend the deadline. I think that especially schools who have fairly early deadlines might be more willing to extend them if you have a good reason for asking for an extension. Considering the magnitude of the choice of where to attend law school, I think schools are pretty understanding.

I asked for a deadline extension and got one. It helps.
