Thomas Jefferson School of Law vs. Western State
I have been accepted to Thomas Jefferson and have been wait listed at Western State. I was wondering what people think is a better school. Western state had a 83% bar passage rate recently which was quite impressive.
Thanks,
Ibrahim

Please don't do it. What were you LSAT and GPA scores?

Neither. The only reason to go to a law school this bad is if your current employer wants you to get a JD (and if its free)

Lets go a different direction with this thread; If you had to go to one of them, which one would you choose and why?

Re: Thomas Jefferson School of Law vs. Western State
I kinda messed up in my undergrad i had a 2.43 gpa according to lsac and a 151 LSAT. I didn't expect to get into any tier one schools by any means and expected to get into tier 3 or 4 schools. I asked the question being serious so please only give feedback thats helpful.
I like Thomas Jefferson because they are in San Diego but I don't know much about them. Western State seems to have their ish together and are really into getting their students ready for the bar. After a Q&A with Western I thought that they would be a good choice.
Thanks,
Ibrahim

This is not a guarantee but when your options are that dismal, you should go with whatever school has the lower LSAT average and try to transfer to a higher ranked school. You have one semester to do this, and that's it. If you can't do it, you run the risk at having graduated from a less reputable school.ibrahim831 wrote:I kinda messed up in my undergrad i had a 2.43 gpa according to lsac and a 151 LSAT. Ok, so I'm not all-knowing, but I think that the above is TERRIBLE advice. Like, I'm wondering if it's even serious. Pick a school, but don't pick one based on this plan.molawn wrote:This is not a guarantee but when your options are that dismal, you should go with whatever school has the lower LSAT average and try to transfer to a higher ranked school. It's bad advice in general, but not in this situation. Besides, I discussed the risks associated with the advice.

Better advice:molawn wrote:It's bad advice in general, but not in this situation. Besides, I discussed the risks associated with the advice.
1) retake LSAT
2) don't go to law school

I just read through this thread completely and saw that gem from molawn. Dear god. No one do that. You'd be better off taking that 40k down to the casino and putting it all on black than you would going to a school like TJLS and trying to transfer to a school worth going to. Your odds are significantly better (almost 50% vs. < 5%).

I was just looking for something like TSJL is better then western or Western is better than thomas jefferson. Or maybe a synopsis on both schools strengths and weaknesses or maybe you should press to get off the wait list... I think i am going to go jump off a building now... JK

All you need to know about Thomas Jefferson is in this article.
OP, both of these schools will rob you blind and give you a near-worthless degree that is more useful for rolling cigarettes or wiping your butt with than getting a decent legal job. TJLS is arguably the worst law school in the country for value because they give almost no merit aid.
You really should re-take the LSAT (study your ass off for it, seriously... don't slouch) and re-apply. Don't spend a dime on these schools. If you're not willing to re-take or you can't do better, then don't go to law school.

TJ is a crapy school, but attend if they give you $$$, they are in alot of debt because of their 140 million dollar building. [its very nice, there is doorman with a suit opening the door, all kinds of technology, but they are in debt,]
im not sure about western, i believe they have high attrition rate.
AND NEVER GO WITH THE MINDSET THAT YOU CAN TRANSFER.

Re: Thomas Jefferson School of Law vs. Western State
Western is considered slightly better I believe so I would go with this option. But don't base your decision on the bar passage rate. If when you start studying for the bar you are having trouble take class on it right after you graduate LS. But a good LS should be spending its time teaching you to think like a lawyer not teaching you the bar exam.ibrahim831 wrote:I was just looking for something like TSJL is better then western or Western is better than thomas jefferson.
