Lied on Why X Essay

Post by niederbomb » Tue Mar 08, 2011 9:50 pm

I'm curious as to why this is not considered a problem with C&F.

What did you lie about? If you exaggerated your desire to attend X school, I would say that is a white lie. I can't imagine what you could lie about on a Why X that would jeopardize C&F.

Soap box moment: Lying is never a good way to start a career.

My little brother lied on some 6th grade standardized writing test- claimed our dad was in afghanistan or something.

lulz @ white lie

@ OP, What did you lie about. I kinda have a feeling that you're messing around though.

Its not a lie if for example you write you want to attend law school X for the family law program, even though you want business law and they dont have it. Because if you went to X that is what you find most appealing about the school. Not a lie, just not your first choice. Thats the only way I think you could lie on a Why X statement.

Ask OP about his experience with Asian prostitutes.

If you're talking about reasons for why you wanted to go somewhere, it seems damn near impossible to prove that you AREN'T passionate about basket weaving jurisprudence. And if you write about why you want to do PI, and end up going into BigLaw, I don't think that really counts.

It's similar to adcoms say they look beyond your LSAT&GPA but in fact they don't.

If you can't come up with 200 honest words on why you are interested in attending a given law school, you probably shouldn't apply to that school.

OP I think this is a serious deal. You should either revise your essay and send a truthful one in, hopefully they haven't looked at your application yet. If they have you need to contact admissions and admit what you have done.

On a more serious note, it depends on the content. Lying about how much you want to attend a school is different then saying that you lived in the area your whole life.

It's hard to stretch "It's a good school that can get me a job that makes lots of money" into 200 words.

Mine was....

"Born the son of toothless sharecroppers, I've always struggled for the best. As an investment banker for NASA, I've finally achieved it, but can't live with myself knowing there is injustice in the world. This is why I want to be a lawyer. As someone who works best under intense pressure, a real underdog among underdogs, I've decided the best way to re-create my successful life in a legal mold is to attend your TTT, fight my way to management at a Biglaw Firm, and give it all up to raise awareness of Salamander fighting, the civil war in Tonga, and Muscular Dissatisfaction. Admitting me will not only hook your TTT name to my blindingly bright rising star, but it will provide you with the deep seated satisfaction that comes with $120,000 delivered semi-annually by the money changers in the temple for four years (LLM!). I know you've got it in you, give me the green stamp and set me on my way to my bright future!"
