Previous LOR for future cycle?

Post by stlisforlovers » Fri Jan 07, 2011 3:14 pm

So I used the search function, but couldn't really find anything on this topic. I have 3 (hopefully solid) LORs for this cycle. Even though it's still relatively early, I'm feeling negative about this cycle. I'm going to wait it out and see where else I get accepted, but am definitely planning to retake the LSAT in June. Does anyone know if LSAC keeps your LORs on file for future use? If they do, would schools look down on using LORs from a year ago? I would just feel bad harassing my professors 2 years in a row. Any advice would be appreciated greatly.

I used 2 LOR's two cycles in a row. They do keep your LOR's on file.

Schools probably don't care at all. Only one of them even mentioned something (Penn). This is the email I got:

Two Letters of Recommendation

As a reapplicant, you may already have letters of recommendation on file with LSAC that were used in a prior application cycle. In our application instructions and FAQs, located at http://www.law.upenn.edu/prospective/jd/apply/, we strongly suggest you submit two new letters of recommendation as a reapplicant. If you would like to use your old letters despite our suggestion that you submit new letters, please send an email to contactadmissions@law.upenn.edu.
That being said, I am pretty close to an autoding at Penn (sub3/170+/URM) and I somehow snagged a waitlist. To me that says that even though they "strongly suggest you submit two new letters" that they really don't care.

Submitting the same LOR's doesn't reek of the same laziness that submitting the same PS does. Write a new PS/DS/etc but go ahead and keep your LORs.
