When to Expect Fee Waivers after the December LSAT

Post by Dany » Sun Dec 12, 2010 10:30 pm

Decided to dig through last year's thread since many of you will be curious as to when these will surface. If hidden or snail mail waivers were reported, I indicated so in parentheses - if there is no notation, the waiver was via email. This list may not be comprehensive; I started skimming toward the end as fee waivers died down and the thread turned to conversation. I put T14 schools at the top, and the rest of the schools aren't really in any order.

Other notes: Cornell sent out snail mail packets with no fee waivers; several reported Columbia waivers but not on the day they were received, so I'm unsure about when they came.

Before you ask, here is how to check for hidden fee waivers: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=129078

Yeah, fee waivers really are a godsend. I'd be absolutely broke without them. You can just get everything ready and send out apps as they come in!

I'm sorry I am a bit retarded about the whole application process. So for snail mail fee waivers law schools will simply send you a letter in the mail saying you have been given a fee waiver without me having to do anything?

My lsat score came out today....how long would you recommend I wait before I begin applying to be sure I receive any fee waivers?

Okay, so as far as snail mail waivers, those will usually show up as hidden waivers before the letter actually comes. But you're correct: either way (if it shows up before or after you get the letter), you shouldn't have to do anything - the fee waiver will pop up automatically on LSAC.

As far as waiting, that totally depends on you. If you're broke, I'd wait for the waivers. If you can front the money, you might want to just go ahead and get your apps in. If I were in your shoes, I'd:

- email the schools that people successfully requested waivers from last year to request them (ASAP)
- look at the list of schools above who sent post-Dec. fee waivers, and wait until the first round comes. If you don't get one in the first batch, I'd go ahead and apply in case that's all they're giving out (you don't want to delay your app. by waiting on nothing.)
- apply ASAP to schools who didn't send out waivers after the Dec. test last year.

This is all just what I personally would do - but it's really a judgment call on your part. You might want to read through last year's thread about Dec. fee waivers or ask around to see what others are doing. (I took the test in June so I don't have experience with the Dec. test.)

Hope some of that helps!

Another question about waiting for waivers.. Is there any given amount of time post score release that I should wait before e-mailing schools individually about fee waivers? Or, is it perfectly fine to e-mail all the schools I'm hoping for and see what they say now?

I would email them ASAP - why wait? Best case scenario - they give you one. Worst case - they tell you to wait on CRS. In the OP is a list of schools who granted them to at least one applicant upon request after the December test last year.

Has anyone received waivers for UCLA or Georgetown from the December LSAT?

Also, to update the list, I have received hidden waivers from:
USC
Duke
WUSTL

Today thus far I have received, via email, fee waivers from the following schools:

William & Mary
Cardozo
Richmond
Ohio Northern
University of Mississippi

With W&M being the most recent, and U of Miss being the first, arriving just after midnight. I must say, they are very helpful in this process.

Got one from Alabama and Notre Dame today. Alabama one came with 20 iTunes. Applying immediately.

Def. not applying to Notre Dame because I'm an auto-reject AND they sent me an email in October that invited me to apply but stressed that I wasn't given a fee waiver. Sour grapes.
