Post by darkgreenfruit » Fri Dec 03, 2010 9:58 pm

At a good top 10 undergrad and non-URM, chances for these numbers at T14s?

3.64 GPA/ 171 LSAT
3.70 GPA/ 169 LSAT
3.83 GPA/ 167 LSAT
3.90 GPA/ 165 LSAT

I was curious to know which would count more if the splitter wasn't too extreme.

Well if I had to pick one, I'd pick the first.

Bro/bra.... this makes no sense... please pick one... are you sitting around the table with five friends?

This is just weird

I have a question. Is the Law School Predictor accurate in terms of the schools you are coming from? Surely the same GPA from an Ivy and a state school would be treated differently?

No, he's a freshman considering what numbers he wants to get.

Bolded = in at UVA ED. The last one would probably be in, too, if the LSAT was a 167.

Come ON. The whole point was to see if splitters were okay.

Not really. HYPS is a very slight bump, a little more so if it is that school (Harvard especially takes care of their own, I hear). Otherwise, it doesn't matter.

How depressing. Thanks though!

So you think one can get into UVA with a 165?

Absolutely, under a few conditions.

Apply very early in the cycle
Apply early decision (ED)
Have a GPA above their 75% (3.92+)
Also, being a VA resident helps

UVA takes a lot of ED splitters, so they look for reverse-splitters to keep their medians high. I applied ED there and got wait-listed, probably because my GPA wasn't quite 75%+ (although it's above median).

On law school predictor:

1st one says UVA consider
2nd one says Michigan consider
3rd one says Cornell strong consider
4th one says UVA consider

So is it generally accepted that if it says "consider" you would get in if you did early decision? I didn't do early for any of the schools. I thought "strong consider" was that you'd probably get in, not "hope for...".

LSP didn't update Cornell LSAT median to 168. It still shows up as 167 which is why it shows as "strong consider".

Law school predictor is a rough tool. Your results will vary based on when you apply and how good your app package is.

That said, if I was sold on a "consider", I would definitely ED as I believe "consider" is supposed to represent ~50% chance for RD.

I was under the impression that ED was always binding and you could only do it for one school?

Not 100% if ED is always binding, but I know UVA's is. I'll let someone else address that.

You can only ED one at a time. However, if you get WL'd or denied after applying ED, you can apply to another school ED. For example, say you apply ED to Michigan in October but get denied. You can still ED to UVA or Duke ED II. Some schools offer ED applications at all times, but others have deadlines well before regular admissions deadlines.

If you have four sets of numbers, you can ED to several schools.
