Umich optional essay

Postby vsl89 » Fri Sep 17, 2010 2:54 pm

How important are the optional essays for UMich? 15/18 ppl with the same LSAT and a GPA .2 lower or closer have been accepted on LSN. Are my chances good enough that I don't need to write any? My main concern is that I am ridiculously packed for time and feel like UMich is likely to take me anyhow.

Since you cannot know the numbers of applicants beforehand, I suggest doing everything that has the potential of giving you a leg up.

It's pretty important. If your numbers are on the high end, it can help prevent yield protection. If they're on the low end, it can bump you up if you can really show your interest. As for lack of time, I can't imagine that you can't find some time to set aside to something that's potentially so important.
