This is a similar question to the post a few down -- I am wondering whether I should write a diversity statement, and if so, what the topic should be.
Over the past two years a close family member was institutionalized for mental illness, and after a lesser episode I too was diagnosed with the same illness. I will already have to disclose to law schools that I have this illness because of some withdrawals on my academic transcript. The very diagnosis itself doesn't make me diverse, but the experience of learning to accept it in a family member and then manage it myself does. If I chose to write on the topic, I would talk about how I have become a stronger person for having to cope with this.
Would this be a good diversity statement? Any comments appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Diversity Statement Question
I think that an addendum is more appropriate in this situation.
