I was shocked when I saw how many were going to NYU.

maybe strong in absolute terms, but i'd want to know how many kids from each school got offers instead of just the number that accepted. also, the number of offers as a percentage of total entering urms would be helpful.

i wouldnt draw too many conclusions from that breakdown.
Plus, adjusting for size, Columbia and Stanford actually did a bit better than NYU.

Do you really think that they had a significant number not accept the offer? Just curious.

As expected, it looks like NYU's large gift to SEO this past year had a big impact. They only had 4 NYU people in last year's class and it skyrocketed all the way to 14 this year--even more than Harvard!

the next firm down pays maybe half as much at each level.

Susman Godfrey, Kellog Huber, and Boies Schiller pay similar salaries once you factor in bonuses (although not to first years in the case of Boies) for anyone interested in firms with big payouts.

somewhat misleading because those are litigation boutiques that generally require years of clerking before one can join as a first year associate. to my knowledge, only wlkr pays that sort of money to people directly out of law school.
Boies doesn't require a clerkship; Susman and Kellog practically do but the reality is that if you have the grades/school combination to get Watchell you have the grades/school combo to get a 1 year district court or COA clerkship ( you don't need multiple). The only reason most of the Wachtell hires don't have a clerkship under their belt is because they didn't want to clerk--- they had the qualifications to clerk but chose not to (also Wachtell is primarily a transactional firm so they don't value clerkships like litigation focused firms like Boies, Susman, Williams and Connoll etc; even though they are just as selective).

To future applicants:

Please apply to this program. If you need convincing, please PM me. You would have to have some pretty unique circumstances for this not to be the absolute best thing you can do. I just had to make sure that was said.

I am white/hispanic. Will being white be held against me? I am Hispanic..hispanic is an ethnicity and not a race. One can be of any race and still be Hispanic. In their brochure, they keep referring to students of color.
Will I be automatically ruled out because I am not "of color"?

Nah. Just cling close to whatever tie you have. SEO is sophisticated enough to understand the diversity within racial groups.

The fact that they ask for a headshot is kind of strange in my opinion.

It's for the book with all the intern's profiles that they give to the firms.

I thought that was the one they took at orientation, no? I remember the headshot I sent them being printed on the back of my application materials during the interview.

Either way, you shouldn't see it as weird. SEO doesn't make it a secret that they care how their interns represent themselves. They are very open about the fact that certain hairstyles, facial hair, etc. will not be tolerated. Just send a professional looking photo and don't worry about it. No big deal.

I submitted 12/14 (or at least that's when they sent the confirmation email). I received the email for an in-person interview on 2/16. Sometime in late March/early April they sent out a letter basically saying to hurry up and deposit at a school or risk losing the spot. I submitted my deposit letter on 4/12 and had a follow up interview on 4/17, confirmed sometime shortly after that. I may have heard back sooner if I had submitted my deposit confirmation earlier. Your mileage may vary.

Edit: RandM is right. The initial head shot I think is for screening/evaluation purposes. It may be a little late to give advice, but I'd recommend being clean shaven in your photo. I got caught with little 5 o'clock shadow once and recieved a serious lecture. Girls ought to be as conservative as possible, from what I can tell.
