Personal Statement Topic

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Dec 30, 2014 8:09 pm

Originally, I was going to write a PS about my experience working at a Domestic Violence clinic where I spoke to many victims and helped them fill out restraining orders among other things. However, I now work (unpaid) at my dad's food business helping him manage various aspects of it.
I was told writing a PS about my experience working with my dad would be a good option as well and now I'm not sure what to do.

Any advice?

Working at a DV clinic is better.

Neither is better, to be honest. Stop trying to read my mind and just tell your compelling story. Whether that is the DV clinic or your dad's venture, it will show when you show passion.

I want to see you expressing conviction in your statement regardless of topic, and that will largely revolve around how you frame your statement. Stop trying to read tea leaves based on what an ADCOM will like and focus more on what really impacted you. If something sincerely mattered to you, it will be an obvious choice for a PS.

People have grabbed Stanford (with admittedly strong apps) based on developing a new PoS for something arbitrary. You can accomplish what you want if the file matches up.
