Inspiration PS - nothing to read here, just a quick question

Post by emjay » Fri Dec 03, 2010 10:58 pm

Would like some opinions on the topic of my essay.

First, talk about my father for two paragraphs and why he has inspired me (3/4 page).
And then transition into all about me (1.25 pages).

I am worried about how law schools will view this PS when I spend a good portion of it talking about why my dad kicks ass.

Also, it's not like he's in there for shits and giggles, its an integral part of my PS and ties the whole thing together.

Appreciate it, thanks!

I agree with the person above me.

In theory, I think it could work as long as it is executed well. If you talk just about how your dad is awesome (and I get that because my dad is awesome too), maybe not. But if you can talk about how that awesomeness has effected you, then I can see how it might be okay.

Hard to say, though.

PM it?

Depends on why you're talking about how kick ass your dad is. Are you talking about him because you want to be just like him someday? Are you talking about him because he has overcome serious obstacles that somehow parallel obstacles in your own life? Does your dad make the best steak this side of the Cascades (or whatever side you're on, in any case)?

What I feel like I'm trying to say is, don't tell us your dad is kick ass because he is kick ass. Because that would be boring (well, maybe not). Your dad is not applying to law school, you are. :)
