I got a call - I was really hoping it was Stanford calling at 5:30 PST. Then I was really hoping it was a dean of admissions a UVA offering me a full dean's scholarship. Then I asked a few questions about softball.

I think I can deal with a few hours of class a day in ugly buildings.

It is nice that even if classes are boring and tough, there's still softball. I hope my decade of baseball skills pay off, I've only played actual softball once or twice.
Edit: Who can't wait to see a real football team play on Opening Day? (USC not us)
Edit2: I came across this housing guide in a Google search if anyone is interested. --LinkRemoved--

I'll preface this by saying these ratings sites tend to be overly critical but just thought I'd share this for people looking at Ivy Gardens...

uhh, that doesn't seem good. however, i did email and call ivy gardens in the last few days and they were extremely responsive and friendly...
i'm starting to look at Jeffersonian Apartments located on Arlington Blvd. the ivy garden's insistence on sending a $20 app fee and 1st month deposit with an application is somewhat absurd...

Is it me or is it weird that the calls stress softball?

Well, softball is what makes UVA cooler than any other law school. When you're trying to sell your school over another T14, it's hard to get away with crap about collegiality and great students/faculty since it's pretty much the same across the board. It is nice to think there's a diversion from the class/study/bar/eat/sleep routine of the average law student.

I asked about softball, they didn't bring it up.

Re: University of Virginia School of Law 2011
Is softball mandatory? Is there a stigma against non-softball-playing students? I was a decent baseball player when I was younger, but softballs are so big and awkward I'm not sure I want to deal with them. At most other schools I would think I might be more athletic than a lot of the other players, but UVa students seem pretty healthy from the pics I've seen. If the majority of you are not clumsy and out-of-shape at the ASW, I will strongly consider withdrawing.

softball isn't mandatory and aside from, say 10%-15% of the class, most people aren't all that great either. Some are really bad but that's part of the fun. And often, winning qua winning isn't exactly the goal for most teams. That is to say of course you would rather win than lose but for many teams, it more about having fun, relaxing, etc. and drinking beer)

Great. I hope my little league star skills carry over from baseball to its girly equivalent. I was banned from all of the church softball leagues in my hometown, so this will be totally novel to me.
Is anybody planning to go to one of those pre-ASW gatherings hosted by the Law School's Student Bar Association on the 13th and 27th? I doubt I'll be able to make it to Charlottesville before the 14th, but maybe someone else can give a summary of events or upload pics of this school-sponsored night party.

Yeah, BBQ is teh titties. I might fly out early so I can go to it!
Also, a ton of people got accepted to UVA today. They found out by receiving an invite to the BBQ, so this thread should become a lot more popular this weekend!

Has anyone who's been accepted sent in their deposit yet? If so, do they send you an e-mail confirming that they've received it?

Re: University of Virginia School of Law 2011
First post - just started checking out the site, so i apologize if someone's already asked this.
I'm pretty sure i'm going to uva this fall and im looking at apartments. i know a lot of people live in ivy and some other apts close by, but i dont mind paying a bit more for a nicer place since i'll spend most of my time there (i just cant study in a library). just wondering if anybody was also considering this. i'm going to visit avemore, jefferson ridge, lakeside, and carriage house during the asw weekend. if anybody has any inside info on these places it would be much appreciated. (also i currently live in dc so any of these places will be cheaper than what i pay now)

when will you all be moving to charlottesville? Right before orientation or will anybody be there during the summer?

I'm assuming right before school starts. I wouldn't wish a Charlottesville summer on anyone.

gladiator what's so bad about summers in Cville?
At my UG summers were the best time of year (awesome weather, nowhere near as congested, relaxed pace)
