I'm surprised that so many people want to live in Gropius...Did you all visit? Gropius would most definitely be my last choice. Is it because it's cheaper? Or are there other benefits as well?

I feel you. #228...
Choice is between Gropius or poverty.

I tried to register with HL Central. How long does it take to get a confirmation e-mail? Maybe I used the wrong address.
Should we use XXXXX@jd11.law.harvard.edu or XXXXX@law.harvard.edu to register?

It is close, cheap (shitty), and socially active. I am fresh out of undergrad and having fun while in law school is a priority. The place definitely isn't nice, but I have lived in worse. If it saves me money and lets me have lots of fun, I can deal.CallMeCrazy wrote:I'm surprised that so many people want to live in Gropius...Did you all visit? Sadly, my spot was just bumped. Now I have to be a jerk and bump someone else.

this will give us about 5 square feet each?
It took me about two days, so don't lose hope. I used jd11 email. It's funny though, because the housing lottery email was sent to a ME@law.harvard.edu address, which made me happy (the .jd11 deal is too much). So I checked if I can use it.. Nope. Gotta be @jd11.law.....toryslaw wrote:I tried to register with HL Central. How long does it take to get a confirmation e-mail? Maybe I used the wrong address.

Yep, something like that. I had a 10x12 room, but I got bumped into the 8x12 next door to it.nahumya wrote:appreciatedbrokendowncar wrote:I'll let you live with me in gropius if it will keep you out of YLS

There seemed to be a lot of gropius rooms left when I picked last night though. You should be fine.

Here's the talk from Doug, for those of us on the wait list (khm):
"It is actually very likely that you will come off of the wait list at #14. Last year, by the end of the summer we had taken 64 students off of the wait list. Many students will cancel in favor of Harvard Affiliated or decide to defer a year, etc. Well begin processing the wait list after the incoming LL.M./S.J.D. room selection occurs next week. Feel free to touch base the week of May 19th to check on your status."
I like him. He's fast and nice.

I didn't check, actually. I just headed right for the building/floor I had picked out ahead of time.

Sweet, #228 has his fingers crossed for his cell. Gotta pay for wifey's apartment in NYC and housing at HLS. Tres cher.nahumya wrote:Here's the talk from Doug, for those of us on the wait list (khm):

Re: Harvard Law Class of 2011
Anyone besides me miss out on the lottery and not get to decide either of these two days? I did the application in time and everything, so I guess I was just pretty unfortunate. Anyone know how to check the wait list or see which spots are already occupied? I'm really worried about having to wait until July or August to get housing finalized.

Out of curiosity, how difficult would it be to get a biglaw job if one graduates at the bottom of their HLS class?

From what everyone told me at ASW, you can get a job that pays market regardless of your class rank and GPA.

Re: Harvard Law Class of 2011
Hello everyone!
I was pulled off of the waitlist on Friday, and I will most likely be receiving the admitted students binder this week. Does it contain all of the housing information? Or does that come seperately? I would love to live on campus if possible, but being so late in the game I dont know that there will be any room left.
Secondly, are pets allowed anywhere on campus? (6 yr. old declawed cat...)

Housing info comes in the binder.
I would suggest emailing the housing people to find out exactly what options you have ASAP. The email address is hlsdorms@law.harvard.edu . Good luck!

thanks! i actually sent an email to that address over the weekend, but I havent heard back. I didnt think I would need to be looking yet (you could find housing at my undergrad instit. like 3 weeks b/f school started), but it looks like everyone is securing apts/dorms as we speak...

congrats abbygal! you may be getting that impression because the on campus housing lottery/selection occured pretty recently (i think last week, and may still be happening). if you plan to live off campus, i don't think you need to start worrying quite yet.

I'm not planning to look in earnest until June or so. Seems like that is when most of the off campus housing for fall opens up.

Congrats, abby! I'm not sure about getting into dorms after the lottery, but here's a link to the website for Harvard Affiliated Housing: --LinkRemoved--.
Once you register, you have the option to try for "currently available" units. They seem pretty adamant about not allowing pets in these apartments. I don't think pets are allowed in the dorms, either. (Can anyone confirm if that's right?)
If it's important to you to bring the cat, you might want to look into non-Harvard options.

Re: Harvard Law Class of 2011
i signed a lease with my place last weekend. The search occurred during a truly hellacious heatwave and was fucking horrible and endless. i'm very curious to hear how others fared in their (off campus, unaffiliated) housing hunt. PMs please!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
