Yes. I elected to go part-time evenings as well. I'll be keeping my day job like you.Night_L wrote:

Re: UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT (UCONN) CLASS OF 2011
UConn recently (within the past year or so) joined the IP/Patent Law off-campus job fair hosted by Loyola Univ-Chicago. I also heard at the ASW that the Career Services Office is trying to strengthen the ties with the NYC firms as well.
So hopefully when we're looking for jobs outside of CT, we'll be in good shape!
I also want to take the opportunity to plug the UConn Law Class of 2011 Facebook group -

Re: UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT (UCONN) CLASS OF 2011
From what I have gathered UConn is a regional school for the most part and unless you are in the top 10% you will need to work in CT before moving to a big city. They did say at the ASW that they are trying to strengthen ties in NYC and Chicago but this is a newer focus and I wouldn't bet on benefitting from it in the near future. I personally want to stay in CT and that is why I am going to UConn but I think it will be a pretty even split between people that want to work in CT and those who didn't get into the school they wanted and are hoping to tear it up at UConn to get a job in Boston or NY.

Re: UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT (UCONN) CLASS OF 2011
So a few days ago I got off the waitlist and decided to attend yesterday. I will be attending the evening division the first year. I was wondering how everybody was doing on finding housing and if anybody else that is doing the evening division has done any job searches or even if they plan on working.

I talked to a couple of students about the stress of the first year, and opinions vary wildly even within that small sample.
Care to elaborate a little?? Other schools seem pretty easy to read as far as difficulty (e.g. BC is the Disney World of law schools) but I can't say I have any idea about the difficulty of the classes at UConn. I also wonder how heavily the Socratic Method is used... did you get any input on this sort of thing from the ILs?

I got a vague call today from the director of admissions asking me if I am still interested. I would love to attend UConn next year, but when I told him that I was still interested, he just said great, and that they would be making decisions in the next week or two. What do you think that means??

I don't think the Socratic method was designed to give anyone a power trip... It may, in fact, be in place to promote the exploration of ideas and concepts.Night_L wrote:It's one thing to go to law school right from college, when your life is still dominated by the authority of professors and academia. It's another to have been out in the real world for several years, and have developed another outlook towards education.
I am a professional, a father, and will be 30 by the time school starts; I do not intend to allow anyone to bully me around like a child. If I am not ready for class when I get called, well tough luck. These guys are being paid to educate me, not to subject me to a power trip. We're not in elementary school any more -- the Socratic Method (and it's practitioners) can kiss my ass
It seems as though you're entering law school with an rather spirited attitude. That's awesome, but I don't think law school will be about being bullied around by professors. You don't need to be on guard so much. I doubt they're all about subjecting students to their power trips.
You are absolutely correct. We are not in elementary school anymore.

i'm not 100% sure, but it's definitely at the top of my list right now. I got a call a few days ago, and they put a letter in the mail the next day, sent to my home address (which was odd since the decision was sent to my mailing address).

Just got in off the PT waitlist.
