UConn residency question

Post by xodaryll » Thu Mar 14, 2013 11:39 pm

Hi everyone!

So I have been accepted to UConn and I really like the school. They have a short form you fill out before being considered for merit/need based aid and one of the questions asks where you will be living during your 1L year-- with your parents or seperately.

Here is my dilemma:

I go to undergrad in CT but my parents live in MA. I only live about 25-30 min from UConn so I could easily commute and have ~0 COL besides my car insurance/gas BUT out of state tuition sucks and I'm sure if the merit aid would make up for it.

I have family in CT but over an hour from the school.

I could get an apartment in CT but I don't know if the COL would overshadow the in-state discount.

Does anyone have experience with or advice about this? I wanted to wait for the merit and need based aid to come through before deciding where to live but I don't want to make the wrong choice and miss out on any scholarships.
