its a good tactic- but contact financial aid and admissions to see if you can defer and keep the scholly. IF they say yes, move there. This way you can get a good feel for living in the area, and if you dont like it you can apply to other schools ( so maybe you might want to consider retaking and re applying) but you need to double check to see if the deferral is binding or not.If it is binding then you will go to UL or not go. If not, then keep your options open.

Just tell them that you want to defer to work and save more money and establish state residency. Be upfront and honest with UL,. its not a big deal imo.

I would guess that deferring is likely to gain you in-state tuition since the primary reason for moving to the state will still be educational. Also, if you do qualify for in state tuition, your scholarship will likely be reduced or eliminated since it was based on OOS COA.
