Re: Columbia Financial Aid 2011
I am seriously dying because I need to hear from Columbia financial aid. I have some scholarship deadlines due next week and they've already been extended. This is so frustrating. I really want to commit...Anyone know when we will hear (apart from the standard end of March, early April)
Sorry...venting

How come after each stage in the law school admissions game it usually comes down to sitting and waiting for an email? LSAT score release day, then status checkers, and now I'm hoping CLS emails me something today so I can compare FinAid packages. Good luck to everyone waiting with me!

I haven't done this yet (stupidly), but is it possible to ask NYU for an extension on their scholarship offer if the Columbia package doesn't come by today?

Re: Columbia Financial Aid 2011
Yes but you should have asked earlier. If Columbia package doesn't come today and you take the NYU award, then I think all that happens is you lose your deposit at NYU if you get the CLS package later and prefer that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though, thats just the word on the street (facebook)bosox777 wrote:I haven't done this yet (stupidly), but is it possible to ask NYU for an extension on their scholarship offer if the Columbia package doesn't come by today?

in order to accept your NYU award, you have to withdraw from all the schools where youve been accepted. it would be risky character & fitness/pissing off the schools wise to give nyu your deposit and tell them youre withdrawing, then later switch to columbia or show nyu their new scholly offer

Shoot, so should I do it now or is it too late? And would an email suffice?Ship87 wrote:Yes but you should have asked earlier. It appears I was wrong. I'm shocked that Facebook comments weren't entirely accurate. Thanks!mcweanis wrote:in order to accept your NYU award, you have to withdraw from all the schools where youve been accepted. it would be risky character & fitness/pissing off the schools wise to give nyu your deposit and tell them youre withdrawing, then later switch to columbia or show nyu their new scholly offer

Re: Columbia Financial Aid 2011
wait.. i thought that was true but now i can't find any evidence to back it up. i think i might have confused penn and nyu
UPDATE: no i was actually right; accepting you scholarship means you have to fill out the "intention to enroll" form, which states in bold that you must withdraw from all other schools to which you have been admitted. you can ride waitlists though.

Do should I email asking for an extension, or is it laughably late? And would I email financial aid? Alternatively, should I call?mcweanis wrote:wait.. i thought that was true but now i can't find any evidence to back it up. i think i might have confused penn and nyu

i would definitely call. i talked to someone named janet or jeanette and she was really helpful and personally asked the dean guy for an extension for me.

Yeah, they really need to get back to me! I can't even seriously consider CLS until I hear, even though I enjoyed the ASW

I called and they scanned / emailed me my financial aid letter. It's HIGHER than NYU's offer!

Anyone know if a "law school grant" is merit or need-based?

By definition, primarily need based, but I think in CLS's case, it's a mixturedot wrote:Anyone know if a "law school grant" is merit or need-based?

For those of you who got yours, did you already send them your offers from peer schools beforehand? I debated doing that but decided to wait to see what I get, if anything... not sure if it's the right decision.

Re: Columbia Financial Aid 2011
For me, I had an NYU to work with so I had to send it in ASAP (I withdrew from NYU later protesting their ridiculous response deadline). I think it's preferable to see first, then negotiate up, but if you have a tight deadline you should send it in ASAPcyxdev17 wrote:For those of you who got yours, did you already send them your offers from peer schools beforehand?
