URM 2012-2013 Cycle... let's go!

Post by MeSoLitigious » Thu May 17, 2012 2:45 pm

Who else is getting ready for fall applications? I'm taking the June LSAT, got my LORs requested, one submitted, transcripts uploaded... I'm getting ready to go! Who else is excited and chomping at the bit for this cycle?

PR Male. Pretty excited.

As soon as I get my June LSAT score back, I'm getting my Recs and then my transcripts.

:P So great to hear from all of you! Can I ask what it means when someone puts MA in their stats? It would seem to mean they have a Masters of Arts in something... right? But I thought that grad school didn't give much of a bump and isn't considered for your LSAC gpa?

Sorry to be clueless

Yeah, the abbreviation for a masters degree is often confused with Mexican American, since they're both abbreviated with MA. :D

Why are you planning on taking the test twice?

I'll probably be taking twice. This test, I'll be lucky to get a 171. Come October, I'm fairly certain with that much studying, I'll be able to pull a 175+

The downside is, I'll probably end up having no hair left to pull out...

Here's to hoping that this thread stays active until the 2012-2013 cycle is over.

You don't have to use them, especially when you could 1) do well enough the first time around and 2) go down a few points the second.

AA Male here. Been lurking on TLS for almost two years now and it has been such a valuable resource, particularly as a URM. Finalized my PS/DS before the semester ended and reached out to my recommenders. I've got a busy, fun summer ahead of me, but kinda want it to speed by so I can get those apps in and start the next stage of my life. Good luck everyone!

NA female. I've been ready to apply since last cycle (LORs, transcripts, personal statement are all done), but I just need to finally take the LSAT and get a decent score. We'll see how June goes! I've been studying for way too long.

How do people feel about the rise in application fees? Will this mean a decrease in applicants overall or an increase in more prepared applicants? Im not sure, but the end of this cycle has shown that schools really did tighten up, in terms of acceptances vs.holds.WLs. Im a bit nervous, but so ready to get this cycle rolling.

I doubt it will affect the number of applicants, but i think it will affect the number of applications. That is, someone who was planning on applying to 15 schools might scale that down to 8. As far as schools tightening up, i can only hope it doesn't adversely affect our cycles.

Long time lurker checking in who can't believe it's already our time! Granted, I've pushed back my lsat sitting until october (although that makes me a bit worried about the possibility for fee waivers) because too much stuff came up in school for me to prepare for june. Looking forward to amazing acceptances all-around come next year!

P.S. AA female
