Hispanic, high LSAT, lower GPA

Post by colorando » Mon Feb 21, 2011 1:56 pm

So I'm wondering if anyone has applied/plans to apply/knows about this situation

I'm applying as an "other hispanic" and I plan to apply with a 170+ LSAT, but a 3.3 GPA. I've heard that traditionally URM(ish) candidates are treated with an LSAT boost, and based on my reading on here hispanics can expect some sort of boost. What about candidates like myself?

I guess I'm curious as to the claim offered here : http://www.deloggio.com/diversty/hispanic.html

"2011 Update: as schools fight for higher LSAT scores to bolster their USNews ranking, Hispanics with high LSAT scores may be favored over more disadvantaged groups such as Puerto ricans and Chicanos. However, as I discuss in the section on Foreign Students, this advantage may be offset by the disadvantage of a "No GPA" report if your bachelor's degree came from a school outside the U.S."

Thoughts?

i thought conventional wisdom was that hispanics generally are *not* URMs.

Have you gotten a 170+ yet? Or are you just "planning" to

I was going to apply this cycle but decided to wait until next year so I can ED to some schools but I think the situation is looking pretty grim.

I'm also a URM(mexican) with extreme splitter stats 179/2.81 and have absolutely no idea what schools would accept me. I plan on blanketing the T-14 outside of HYS, with ED to NU because I will have 2 years W/E at that point.

Edit: NYU is my dream school but I have no illusions about getting in :(
