University of Washington's IMA is still relatively new and freakin' awesome. Right by Husky Stadium. There are hidden rooms dedicated to boxing/MMA/judo located near the squash courts. Two floors worth of weight training stuff, tons of treadmills, pool, multiple bball courts, etc etc.

I guess this is a blatant shout out for my school, but Texas does very well for itself. I'd imagine it has something to do with the whole football thing.

I guess they need to provide water to try and battle the ridiculous humidity. Dear LORD I'm going to miss the East Coast when I move to Austin in two weeks.romothesavior wrote:Haha I'm just giving you a hard time, Pearalegal. Do they have women's kickboxing? My local gym has a guy who did MMA and he was training the guys for MMA, but also opened a women's kickboxing. I really enjoyed it.sigmachiev wrote:University of Washington's IMA is still relatively new and freakin' awesome. Right by Husky Stadium. Identifying what makes the gyms nice might be helpful. I would be looking for the ability to deadlift (a place to do it, round plates instead of plates with multiple flat sides, ability to use chalk), squat (at the very least an A-frame rack if not a power rack with a decent bar), and other lifts that would possibly set off the lunk alarm (LinkRemoved).
And lulz @ South Carolina having a monorail. More like a mono-horse&carriage. A ton of little SEC girls running around in tiny shorts that say "Cocks" on the back makes up a bit for it, however.

Actually you'd be surprised. Its not unusual for the football team to show up for some pickup bball.awesomepossum wrote:Bhuff wrote:I would guess any school that has a huge football program.. like OSU for instance.. that's just me guessing tho
usually athletics (or even separate sports at the major sports schools) have their own gyms. You won't be going to the gym with Terrelle Pryor if you're at the OSU law school unless you're a grad assistant for the football program or something.

Good idea! I like good treadmills and elipticals. Bonus if they have tvs on them! Also free weights.Connelly wrote:Identifying what makes the gyms nice might be helpful. I went to BU for undergrad and I LOVED going to FitRec. It can get a little crowded but otherwise everything was always clean and I rarely had a hard time finding a treadmill or elliptical. The elevated running track is nice and so is the smoothie bar.
The lazy river isn't all its cracked up to be...you can't bring anything inflatable in, so you basically end up walking around in a circle.

Cincinnati's gym is really nice, it has a lazy river, a huge pool, and tons of other gym equipment. I know students can also run on the track or football field.

The gym there is large and very nice looking. Looked like they had brand new everything. However, I wasn't impressed with the free weight section. Pretty small and not alot of benches/power racks especially considering how big the rest of the gym was.Cupidity wrote:BU FITREC wins.

Not one of the best, but FIU has a nice one, and right next to the Law School. The Law School is the white building on the left.

awesome thread...
I'm staying at columbia for intern housing this summer and the gym is pretty decent...nothing state of the art, and it gets super crowded (even in the summer!) but not too shabby...cinefile 17 wrote:+1zettsscores40 wrote:Michigan's gyms blow. CCRB is supposed to be getting a huge revamp I think.

If you can get in (kinda hard for non-alums) going to GSU and using the GT CRC is amazing. It was built in 1996 as an Olympic training facility and has everything, a lazy river AND a water slide.

By sq. ft. and numbers isn't the largest, but the student body is small and has an even smaller number of fitness minded people, so it is almost never crowded.
Also, a co-ed sauna, which I guess could be a plus or a minus.
