adopt-a-state 2014 has now come to a close
thank you all for putting in the time to make this project happen
as i said earlier, bc of what we've done here, thousands of prospective law students will be exposed to the information they need to make informed decisions about attending law schools
i'm drunk so pardon my sentimentality, but i think we probably changed some people's lives for the better
and hopefully will be contributing to the decline of a few particularly egregious scam schools
u guys all rock
Three lucky participants in Adopt-A-State 2014 will receive a $10 gift certificate to their choice of Chipotle, Five Guys, Panera Bread, or Starbucks! If you have completed a school, you qualify!
Here's how to enter:
1) Post in this thread with your entry information by July 27 at 9:00 PM.
2) If you completed all schools in a state, list that state and the number of schools you completed. If you completed only some of the schools in a state, list that state and list the schools you completed. Each school will count as one entry.
3) On July 27 at 10:00 PM EST, I will assign each entry a number and will post in this thread.
4) At 10:30 PM EST, I will run a random number generator three times. The three numbers drawn will win their choice of a $10 gift certificate to Chipotle, Five Guys, Panera, or Starbucks!
4) There is a limit of one winning entry per participant. In the event that one person has more than one of their entries chosen, additional random numbers will be generated.
5) I will then PM the winners for next steps.
Good luck!

==UPDATES==
Everyone in this thread is awesome. Thanks for taking the time to adopt a state.
At this point, there are still several dozen schools left, and seventeen unfinished states. As an incentive, I am announcing FABULOUS PRIZES to the participants of Adopt-A-State 2014.
Three lucky winners, chosen at random, will receive a $10 gift card to their choice of Chipotle, Five Guys, Panera Bread, or Starbucks!!!!
When the last state is complete, I will check the Wikipedia entry for every ABA accredited LS to make sure everything is completed properly. Then, on the honor system, everyone who would like to participate in the raffle will submit a list of schools they completed. For each school they submit they will receive a number. I will then film myself running a random number generator three times to pick three numbers. The person to whom each number is assigned will be a winner!
(Fine print: limited to one prize per poster, sorry MG. Entries will be accepted once I've finished checking the last school. Posters have 24 hours from that point to post their schools ITT.)
Four fabulous eateries! Three chances to win!
Now go Adopt-A-State!

One of the first place prospective students look for information about law schools is Wikipedia. Unfortunately, as many of us know, most Wikipedia entries on law schools are 100% marketing fluff with zero useful information. I think TLS can change that.
I propose that TLS users agree to adopt a state. Once a user adopts a state, he or she will edit the Wikipedia entry for each school in that state so that it includes relevant and up-to-date employment and cost information. We can find this information on the school's official website, and on LST (Law School Transparency).
Here's an example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_N ... ool_of_Law
I found Cardozo's FT/LT/JD-required employment statistics on LST, and posted them at the bottom the opening summary to the Wikipedia article, citing the official Cardozo ABA required disclosures (where LST gets its information).
Then I added two sections to the article - one for employment and one for costs. I found the underemployment statistics on LST, the cost of attendance on Cardozo's website, and the LST estimated debt-financed COA on LST. A quick way to find the relevant information on a school's website is to Google the name of the school + "ABA required disclosures" or "cost of attendance".According to Cardozo's 2013 ABA-required disclosures, 54.3% of the Class of 2013 obtained full-time, long-term, JD-required employment nine months after graduation.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://cardozo.yu.edu/your-career/empl ... statistics |title=Employment Statistics}}</ref>
You can use the template below if you'd like, replacing the figures and citations with whatever school you're working on.== Employment ==

==Costs==
The total cost of attendance (indicating the cost of tuition, fees, and living expenses) at Cardozo for the 2013-2014 academic year is $76,521.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.cardozo.yu.edu/node/2903 |title=Tuition and Expenses}}</ref> The Law School Transparency estimated debt-financed cost of attendance for three years is $294,257.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.lstscorereports.com/schools/ ... costs/2013 |title=Cardozo-Yeshiva University Profile}}</ref>
Adopting a state, especially one with few schools, will take a minimal amount of time. It's possible to get a school done in under five minutes. And your actions will help give tens of thousands of applicants access to information they had no idea existed. They'll be able to make more informed decisions about where to attend, and hopefully they'll continue their research on LST, a great resource. This project will balance those law school articles that are mostly marketing fluff, and you'll be doing something positive to help prospective students (beyond those who stumble into the Choosing forum by chance).(introduction paragraph)
