I know that NLJ250 is pointless now that we have ABA data, but CLS is getting close to its pre-recession average.

Yeah sorry, I meant in a general sense. Just a few years ago people still relied on NLJ250.scottidsntknow wrote:New ABA data came out too?banjo wrote:I know that NLJ250 is pointless now that we have ABA data, but CLS is getting close to its pre-recession average.

What are those percentages measuring? Just to use Cornell as an example, is that saying that 45% of the entire class ends up at NLJ250 firms, or that 45% of the students who end up with a legal job are at NLJ250 firms? Or something else entirely?

% of all graduates who end up at NLJ250. Notice Yale is low due to many of them choosing clerkships.ScottRiqui wrote:What are those percentages measuring? Right, so this does not include clerkships, big firms not headquarted in the US (the Magic Circle), and firms of 100+ attorneys but not big enough to be NLJ250 (which usually pay somewhat close to their respective market salary).mx23250 wrote:% of all graduates who end up at NLJ250. Thanks. Next dumb question - I noticed that for some of the schools, the percentages are higher than the school's "big law score" on LST. Is that just because the data are coming from different years, or does the NLJ250 encompass some non-biglaw firms?cotiger wrote:Percent of total grads at NLJ250 firms.ScottRiqui wrote:What are those percentages measuring? Re: NLJ 250 Placement for C/O 2013
It's probably just due to the different "cut-offs" for what is considered "big law" vs the "biggest 250 firms". There may be plenty of big law firms but for NLJ they limit it to just the biggest 250, some of which may not be classified as "big law" by others' criteria. Some very high paying firms never make the cut for either (e.g., IP boutiques), so take these data with a grain of salt.ScottRiqui wrote:Thanks. This is for c/o 2013. The last data on LST is for c/o 2012. NLJ250 is more restrictive than LST big law score, as NLJ250 only encompasses firms with I think ~160+ vs 100+ for LST.ScottRiqui wrote:Thanks. Thanks again - I was just pleasantly surprised to see Texas go from 25.8% to 31.8%, and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something big.cotiger wrote: This is for c/o 2013. Obligatory CCN > P comment.
Obviously the difference between Chicago's number and Penn's number for this year is pretty insignificant. But this is the first time in a while that Penn has been below all of CCN.
