Should I go? George Washington University
The school placed me on their waitlist and it is the highest ranked school that I have a chance at attending. I have just sent in my letter of continuing interest (LOCI) and a couple of additional letter of recommendations. My GPA is 3.80 and my LSAT was < 25% of their median. I am not an overall great test taker so if I retake the LSAT I am not sure how much better I could do.
If I attend I will probably be paying sticker and this is where a lot of my doubt comes in if I should attend or not. I am not sure about scholarship money from them and if I get some grants and cash that would be fantastic. But I am not 100% sure on this front.
I want to work in the public interest sector for local governments. I want to stay in the Washington D.C. area and I was recently rejected from Georgetown. So my best option is GWU, I have gotten into other D.C. schools.
Should I pay sticker? What are the job prospects? And is it worth it to go to law school outside of the T14?

1. No. Sticker @ GW is a rip off. Assuming you're financing your education mostly with loans, if you attend @ sticker, you'll probably end up financially ruined.
2. Check http://www.lawschooltransparency.com
3. Yes, if its affordable and your goals are realistic & modest. (not big law)

They placed 20% of their graduating class into school-funded jobs paying $15/hour a few years back. Remove those jobs from the statistics and they're not much better than most other law schools. Don't take on sticker debt. Instead, study for the LSAT, don't accept "I'm a bad test taker" (honestly how much did you study) as an excuse, and go to a T14 next year.

No because of all the reasons previously stated and this http://abovethelaw.com/2014/01/law-scho ... hibitions/
In all seriousness, your GPA is way too strong to not retake. Don't go into studying with a defeatist attitude, follow the guides here on TLS, and put a serious couple months of study in and you can ace that LSAT and have a great cycle next year.

I took one of those classes from Powerscore and studied and attended every class. But I did not take near as many PTs as I had wanted to. 160 3.8, URM.

you should be able to do a lot better with those stats than GW @ near-sticker
but you should still retake in june
trust me, youll regret not maxing out your LSAT once you get to law school

Sit out a cycle, study hard for the LSAT, enjoy HYS.

Thanks everyone! If I don't get the full-ride from American I will sit out. Should I go to American with a full-ride?

American should be shut down. Someone should really step in and close it for good. No, don't attend even with a full ride.apartius wrote:Thanks everyone! If I don't get the full-ride from American I will sit out. Should I go to American with a full-ride?
You have the potential to get into Harvard. Look into the LSAT prep resources on here (there is a whole subforum devoted to that), retake, and enjoy much better options.

Did we actually convince someone to retake? Wow.
Good luck, OP.
I sat out a cycle and retook. Best decision I ever made.

A turn of events, I got into the University of Iowa Law School today should I go there? I wanted to practice in the DC area but it is a good school and it is relatively cheaper.

You should go there, only if you want to live and work in Iowa.apartius wrote:A turn of events, I got into the University of Iowa Law School today should I go there? I wanted to practice in the DC area but it is a good school and it is relatively cheaper.

Iowa will limit you to Iowa unless you're top of the class.
Most of my family lives in Iowa. It kind of sucks there.

I don't know URM admissions that well, but with a 160 3.8, and depending on the type of URM, I think another 5-7 points would make you competitive for Harvard, and it would almost certainly get you money at Georgetown. DC is incredibly competitive, and HYS is totally attainable for you. If you really want DC, I would try to squeeze a few more points out of the LSAT.

Re: Should I go? George Washington University
I'll pile onto team-retake. My wife did GW at sticker and she would recommend anyone stay away. Unless you have very useful work experience (IP background, etc) or are unreasonably confident that you will wind up at the top of your class, attending GW at sticker is asking for 200k and poor job prospects. My wife found herself in that boat a few years back, and she counts herself lucky to have landed a job a year out of school that started her under 60k.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
