I will say this. If you truly want a chance at working in the South then definitely go to UVA. It will give you your best shot by far (if not your only shot) and it's not like you will be shut out of NYC for going to UVA. Plenty of UVA ends up in NYC. But if you choose one of the non Southern top 14s, you have essentially eliminated any shot of working in the South barring top 5 percent grades or something absurd like that (and then probably only in Atlanta). With that being the case it just doesn't make sense to choose a school other than UVA. Obviously personal preferences and happiness have to play some role in the decision making process. If you don't want to work in the North you aren't going to be happy with going to NYU/Penn etc. over UVA just to moderately boost your shot at working there, while borderline eliminating your chances at working in the South.
