St. John's $25,000 vs. Columbus School of Law $17,000

Post by babyoll7304 » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:37 pm

I need some advice. If you are going to dissuade me from attending either of these schools, please do not post. I am going to one of them -- so I just need help choosing.

Just an FYI: Columbus School of Law ranked 79 this year, up from 94. In turn, St. John's went down to 94 from 84. I have received $25,000 to go to St. John's. This is with the stipulation that I must place in the top 40% to renew. Columbus sent me a scholarship of $17,000 with the only stipulation of being in good academic standing. I have connections in New York and none in D.C.

Does anyone have any advice as to which would be a better choice?

Thanks for the help in advance!!

Career goals? Preference between DC and NYC? Choosing the city will probably be the biggest factor in your decision but I will say the top 40% scholarship stipulation at St. John's is rough because they give a LOT of them out and a LOT of people will lose it so be wary of that. That being said, St. John's probably gives you a slight edge in job prospects as it is in a larger legal market and holds a surprisingly strong reputation with older people as it was considered a much better school in the 60s, 70s, 80s, when many of those people were graduating from law schools which could help you in search of a job. So after all that, I would say try to negotiate with STJU about the scholarship and then go there. Good luck!

St. John's if you want to be in NY. Catholic if you want to be in DC.

What happened to your $40k scholarship to Catholic? Was that $40k total for all three years?
