I didn't know that. So what is the ratio of women to men in NYC?
Well, I don't remember what her source was (I was too busy protesting!). But she also cited the fact that there are more gay men than gay women, which would make the situation seem even more grim. Here's a link a friend of mine sent me when we were both teaching Pride & Prejudice (because, you'll notice that it's "women go west" and not "men go east" -- women, of course, are still primarily husband-hunting  ) :

here's the earlier version (with a map): http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas ... f_america/#

BTW, my friend who was so worried is now happily coupled-off.

Thanks! Not a big fan of NY but that's certainly a plus.

ETA: sorry to take this thread off topic!

+1

Also no it's not dumb. NYU and Columbia are peer schools. It's more about personal preference and how much $ you will be getting rather than true gaps in academics or placement.
Agree with both of these quoted posts.

This article is claiming the gender gap is down to 150k: http://www.villagevoice.com/2011-02-09/ ... -it-s-you/

She raises an excellent point about the census not inquiring about sexual orientation however. If you've ever been to Chelsea... lot of guys there. Not many of them are dating women though.

the city has so many students/young professionals that any stats don't really apply (at least you won't notice it). And if you look at all the fashion schools, they are all majority female students who go to school with a substantial gay male student population. Just sayin', whatever gender you are, there is little reason to worry

If you want IP/Arts come to Columbia. We have so many opportunities in the field you'll always have something interesting to pursue be it classes, internships, seminars, etc. I don't know if Wu is coming back next year but we have the Kernochan Center which is constantly putting on great events and drawing big names in the IP field.

I know, that's why Columbia is even still in the picture for me. Everything else felt better at NYU, but if this is really my interest it seems like it would be foolish to pass up the opportunities. That said, it might just come down to the fact that NYU is $4,000 a year cheaper, combined with the fact that I could live in a nicer place in Brooklyn for less than Morningside Heights at NYU that might just be enough to push me into NYU's open arms. $12,000 isn't much in the grand scheme of paying for law school, but its still $12,000 (plus interest) and if I really can't decide, I would rather have that money...

Which school (between NYU and Columbia) has hotter gay boys?

Definitely NYU. My 1L friend there is one of 11 gay guys in his 90 person section...he told me how the head of admissions (also gay) joked about how he tries to get as many gays as he can lol

That has no bearing on the quality, but more is always better I would assume
