Do you want to work in Richmond or maybe have a job in South Carolina when you graduate?

edit: Also, are you comparing at sticker or is there scholarship money on the table?

I'd hitch my wagon to the Virginia economy over the South Carolina economy any year, even despite the competition from the likes of W&M and W&L. But I think the credited response in these threads is "depends on what you want to do and where you want to live."

On that topic, let me know if you have specific questions about Richmond. I've lived 25 years of my life here.

(I am pretty sure the credited response is only what it is so we can mock your choices/goals, btw. So be warned.)

well sticker is the same but when URichmond called me they said they'd offer me something but that was over a month ago...the SC letter said that I was eligble for merit based scholarship based on my LSAT and that Id get an award letter in early march so i'm waiting on that....other than that though I don't really care where I live and work...i'm from Virginia and went to undergrad in SC....I enjoy parts of both states( Hampton Roads and Charleston/Greenville) and loathe other parts (Northern Virginia and Rural anywhere)...maybe Ill get off the wait list at Wake and it wont matter...but right now they cost the exact same and i'm unsure...Richmond is better on paper but faces stiffer comp. SC isn't as good but its literally the only law school in SC because Charleston doesn't really count....Im confused

South Carolina legal economy is minuscule, but you already know this. There is little industry there, thus little need for big firms, which has the obvious trickle down effect on DA/PD/small law jobs. Upside, as you mentioned, is that you're competing with very few students for these jobs. You're competing with even few "qualified" students, in the traditional sense.

I wouldn't bank on getting anywhere near the Charleston legal market unless your uncle owns a firm there, but Greenville is an area poised to explode over the next 10 years. What that means for the legal market there is anyone's guess.

In VA, you have competition from UVA, WL, WM, the DC schools, and probably Wake Forest to some extent. That state has one of the most over-saturated markets, IMO.

I'm not sure I could live in Columbia for three years, either. Especially having to go to school at USC. There's also the unfortunate circumstance of having to have a "University of South Carolina" reference on your wall/resume until the day you die. But I went to Clemson, so my viewpoint might be a bit biased.

Do the diplomas say "COCKS" on them? I need this information to provide a solid recommendation.
