In response to this thread (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=148425&start=25), I have a new concern. (For those unfamiliar, I am looking at non-binding GW Deferral and thus taking a year off to retake + reapply, with current stats of 169/3.24, vs. attending GW sticker). I have a 50k/yr job that I just started. For this tax cycle, I don't believe it will count for fin. aid purposes, so I believe I would qualify for some need based grants. However, if I defer, I will have worked for a year and that will be counted in financial aid. Can anybody to speak to this? Basically, if I don't crack t-14 with the retake, I'm not sure the lost money on financial aid from deferring would be worth it. Your thoughts?

But you would still gain the salary from your job...and could use whatever you don't spend on law school.

True, but after taxes, I am looking at about 3000 per month. My condo is 1200/month, and then cost for food and entertainment would probably be another 800. Thus, I am looking at 1000 saved each month. By September 2012, I should have 18,000 saved? (This is probably highly oversimplified math). Would that be enough to offset the lost financial aid?

I would go if you want to work on the east coast---with that GPA I don't think you'll get into a T-14 unless you will have had 2y w/e by the time you reapply.

Also, don't forget that you will almost never save as much as you think

I am not currently living/working in the U.S. I am a dual-citizen, with family in Maryland.
