Moving out of region after first job

Post by tinlawman » Fri Feb 25, 2011 4:21 pm

I'm just curious if people can go work in NYC, LA, or DC from a job in the midwest with a degree from some place like WUSTL, UMN, UIUC or similar. Does the region only matter for the first job, or are you pretty much stuck in that region forever?

The region generally matters for the first job only assuming you are very good at your first job. If you went to UIUC, work for a Chicago firm and bill 3000 hours a year there likely won't be many firms that will turn you down just because you went to a regional school, even if they are located in DC, CA or NY.
