If debt were irrelevant?
I have two options:
Option one - Go to a school ranked in the 30s with a scholarship that covers full tuition (but no books or stipend or w/e).
Option two - Go to a top 20 school with a partial scholarship that basically amounts to one year's tuition.
I have enough savings from my previous career to easily cover the full cost of option 2, but if I went to option 1 I would have that much more money on graduation.
Other things being equal, is it worth it to attend option 2 with its higher prestige and whatnot given the economy so that it will be easier to get a job? If I'll have no debt either way, does it make sense to go to the best school possible, since they're both in the region I want to live in?

I really can't comment without knowing the actual schools

hard to answer without knowing what the schools are, and what your career ambitions are.

Re: If debt were irrelevant?
You're going to have to be more specific on the school.
Edit: lol on the triple posts.

i almost want to tag this post so that i can refer it to all the naysayers that whine about how TLS "always" says "go to the highest ranked school possible all the time"
in almost all my time on TLS, i rarely see threads where most of the people repeat that mantra

A lot of TLS stereotypes come from pre 2009 era, when TLS rank whored more, and had their heads in the sand over the economy.DoubleChecks wrote:i almost want to tag this post so that i can refer it to all the naysayers that whine about how TLS "always" says "go to the highest ranked school possible all the time"

If debt were irrelevant, I'd live on an estate in Cuba smoking cigars and drinking rum all day.

go to the school thats where you want to work, or is in a place that fits you better.
if both fit the bill- take the money and enjoy
