OSU

Post by AHub1087 » Mon Feb 21, 2011 4:32 pm

What is the general consensus on the quality of OSU as a law school option? Is it well-regarded throughout the midwest, as well as in Ohio itself? How good is the school's reach outside of Ohio as far as job prospects go (Chicago, DC, NYC in particular)?

I have an offer from them (with an 8.5K scholarship), as well as offers from Washington & Lee (12K), Maryland, St. John's (full ride with stipulations), and Brooklyn (possibly) more to come, but not expecting any). I'm from New York, so I would obviously prefer to be closer to home. But my girlfriend is from Columbus. So that could mitigate any concerns I have about moving to Ohio.

What's the total cost for OSU? How do you like Columbus? I have found it to be a really nice city the few times I went, and OSU dominates the market. It is not a bad option. However, it is unlikely to take you back to NYC. I don't think Brooklyn and SJU are good options, however.

The total cost would be around 25K/year for the first year and 10K/year after that due to their liberal residency policy. And I like Columbus a lot, actually. I'm not saying I wouldn't want to stay there long-term. I just don't know for sure, yet.

+1. I'm from Columbus, living in Louisiana, and I think it's a great place. On Moritz's website it says that 48% of students leave the state (from Class of 2009), but I'm guessing most of that is from previous connections. Instate tuition is great (24k) and most people get it after 1L, I've heard. But I don't think it's a safe bet to take you outside the state.

On the bright side, Columbus is really cool, and it's a decent sized legal market, with many corporations.

Yeah, I'm living in rural Arkansas (TFA), so it's DEFINITELY an upgrade there.
