Minn $ vs. Indiana $$
I have no preference where I practice or live. I have 105k total scholly at Indiana and 60k at Minnesota. I do not have in-state at either school. With Minnesota being only a few spots higher in the rankings, is it worth the extra money? I'm trying to get the best value! And I've visited both schools and love both of them- maybe leaning a little towards Minnesota because of the big city aspect.
Thoughts?

I'd go to Minnesota. IU has Indianapolis but it does not dominate it (there are IU-Indy, ND, and various other midwestern T25s)...but Minnesota has MSP, a bigger market than Indy in which it is clearly the best school.

I'm in the same boat.
Is there any real difference between UMN's #22 ranking and IU's #27? Which one, if any, has the most portability outside the Midwest?

Go where you'd be most comfortable living after graduation. If you'd be comfortable in MN or Indy, visit both and see which you like more. If you still don't know, go to Minnesota.

I would go to UM because it has no competition in the market/no schools around it.

You could get to Chicago at the very top of either...but other than that, not much portability. I don't think they're really peer schools though. Minnesota is maybe a half-step up from IU (which just moved into the T30 last year by buying a lot of kids with 165+ LSATs).athenian wrote:+1

According to this site, which is not always accurate, it costs $5 K more a year to go to IU from out-of-state. For those who aren't great with math, that is $15 K over 3 years.
Minnesota is in Minneapolis, while Bloomington is almost two hours away from Indy. While some, like myself, may prefer a smaller college town, others might see this as a disadvantage for networking.
I would say Minnesota, but go to whichever one you feel comfortable at.

It only has William & Mitchell, Hamline, St. Thomas in the city to compete with..BarbellDreams wrote:I would go to UM because it has no competition in the market/no schools around it.
but as for educational quality, it stands alone.
