University of Cincinnati Questions

Postby AKenter » Thu Feb 17, 2011 9:07 am

Hello there! These questions are for anyone who knows about the University of Cincinnati or who knows about the Cincinnati metro area. Here they are:

1. What is life like in Cincinnati? It has a reputation for being a little dangerous. Do you think that reputation is accurate?
2. Is there public transportation and is it good?
3. Do you live in northern Kentucky or do you know any students that do? Also, why does the law school offer the northern Kentucky graduate metro rate? I can't understand why they offer such a great deal right away to students who move there while not offering it to students who move to the city itself.
4. How have your classes been? Are the professors approachable and interested in interacting with students after class?
5. Would you say that students generally get along or would you say that competitiveness prevents friendships from forming between classmates?
6. What do you like most about the school and Cincinnati in general? What do you dislike most?
7. Do you plan to stay in the area upon graduation or are you hoping to go elsewhere?
8. Were you able to find an internship for this summer? Did the career services office help you? Did other students get internships easily or was it very difficult?

Thanks a lot!

I can answer some of the city-related questions.

Cincinnati is fun. Downtown is a ghost town in the evening, but there are all kinds of small neighborhoods with cool bars and restaurants. A lot of the neighborhoods in Cincinnati are separated from one another by hills, so there's a refreshing amount of variety among the neighborhoods. For the less adventurous sort, there's always Newport and other generic, easily accessible stuff in Northern Kentucky.

There are neighborhoods in Cincinnati that are dangerous, just like every other city. Clifton, the neighborhood where UC is located, can be rough at times but it's gotten better. Over-the-Rhine can still be pretty dangerous, but I've worked all throughout the City and been out after dark without feeling worried for my safety.

There is, and it isn't. Just a bus system. I wouldn't rely on it

5. Would you say that students generally get along or would you say that competitiveness prevents friendships from forming between classmates?

I don't go here, so I'm only speculating, but I'd imagine the small class size coupled with the fact that UC does really well in the Cincinnati market would help to mitigate competitiveness.

6. What do you like most about the school and Cincinnati in general? What do you dislike most?

There's a lot to love about Cincinnati. There's great food (note: Skyline Chili is an acquried taste). You get some pro sports. You get a little high culture. For the most part people are really friendly.

Cons? The city has a troubled race history, and although there's been a lot of progress made since the riots, it took riots to get the process.

7. Do you plan to stay in the area upon graduation or are you hoping to go elsewhere?

I'm at Ohio State and hope to get down to Cincinnati after graduation.
