The #28 spot on USNWR
If/when the #28 spot is broken up in the next USNWR rankings, which schools will fare better and which will feel the pain?
My prediction:
Fare Better: BC, UW, UNC
Feel the pain: W&M, UCD, UGA
One of these schools could easily fall to #33 or worse depending on what other schools do. There are a lot of strong schools at the #34 spot as well.

Agreed with UGA feeling the pain.donzoli wrote:If/when the #28 spot is broken up in the next USNWR rankings, which schools will fare better and which will feel the pain?

Didn't the 2011 rankings already come out?
I thought they were leaked early.

Looks like last year the first leak was on April 13th, so not too far off. This of course means it's rankings season!girlonfire wrote:If i was gonna guess at ranks, I'd think youre right on the money.donzoli wrote:If/when the #28 spot is broken up in the next USNWR rankings, which schools will fair better and which will feel the pain?

I was confused for a second there, especially since USNWR has changed the formatting of the webpage

Absolutely! What are your thoughts, this is a safe place. A place where we can feel free sharing our feelings. Think of my office as a nest in a tree of trust and understanding. We can say anything here.

Whatever happens isn't going to matter. It's not like employment prospects are going to change because of the rankings. All of these schools could jump up and be tied for first next year and the reality of the situation wouldn't change one bit.

The fact that it might not matter as far as employment prospects are concerned hardly means that it does not matterbk187 wrote:My thoughts?donzoli wrote:bk187 wrote:Are we seriously having a discussion about this?

Whether something matters, vel non, is subjective

Re: The #28 spot on USNWR
It will only matter insofar as it would create some bruhaha among the people who pointlessly care about (e.g. 0L's and current students) and things that like to make a big deal out reporting little happenings in the legal community even if they are irrelevant (e.g. law blogs and websites such as ATL).donzoli wrote:The fact that it might not matter as far as employment prospects are concerned hardly means that it does not matter
So outside of those things, it doesn't matter.

I understand that rankings might not matter concretely, but the fact that they are discussed on this site ad nauseam and will continued to be discussed more vehemently and with ever greater frequency as we near the release of the 2012 rankings, tells me that people do care and they are therefore worthy of discourse

Some people think that Obama was born in Kenya. Is that too worthy of discussion?donzoli wrote:I understand that rankings might not matter concretely, but the fact that they are discussed on this site ad nauseam and will continued to be discussed more vehemently and with ever greater frequency as we near the release of the 2012 rankings, tells me that people do care and they are therefore worthy of discourse
Just because a bunch of 0L's care about the minutia of the USNWR ranking doesn't mean they area actually relevant. I'm a pretty big believer in the thought that anything that is irrelevant is probably not worth discussing. I'm also a big believer in calling people out for making dumb threads.

Yeah, rankings between 15-30 don't really matter. These schools differ only by a few points in raw score and they bounce around every year.
What matters more is the geographic location and biglaw placement of these schools.

Re: The #28 spot on USNWR
I'll assume, as someone who is likely interested in the law, that you're joking about the Obama thing because I don't think you could honestly believe that a constitutionally required qualification for the job of commander in chief is not something that should be thoroughly vetted and discussed. I'm not commenting on the merits of the argument on either side, but every candidate's qualifications should be verified just as the Illinois Supreme Court thought it worthy examine Rahm Emanuel's residency.bk187 wrote:Some people think that Obama was born in Kenya.
