IUB vs. W&L

Post by chihuahua12 » Mon Jan 03, 2011 12:40 pm

I appreciate your opinions.

- In at IUB with 120k
- In at W&L but no scholarship info yet.

Assuming I get some scholarship from W&L, here are my questions:

- Should I try to negotiate with W&L using my IUB scholarship as leverage (assuming W&L doesn't offer as much)?
- I know IUB is ranked higher, but I'd ultimately like to end up on the east coast. Is W&L a better choice?

Opinions on anything else are helpful.

I really doubt you will get anything substantial from W&L by trying to leverage them with your IUB scholly. Unless you're a master negotiator (or are holding the dean's kids for ransom), this approach probably won't work. If you choose to do so, make sure you approach them with the whole "I NEED to go to W&L, but I'm broke..." spiel.

And IUB is the better school. Job prospects for the east coast will probably we just as good, as both are more regional than national (IUB for Mid-West, W&L for Mid-South), and all the other considerations make it more favorable IMO. Almost the same student/faculty ratio, Bloomington is really nice, better name recognition...it may not beat W&L by leaps and bounds, but I think it does nonetheless.
